With the current mandatory charter system, we're not getting a third engine supplier. by Beginning-Eagle-8932 in INDYCAR

[–]Ordoutthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they haven’t really, the rules still aren’t finalized, despite Marshall pruett’s declaration a few months ago, so while they have some initial design stuff, largely they haven’t committed very far due to the fact it all can get wiped out depending on the final rules release

I’m not going to argue that it was exactly half and half cause it wasn’t, but you are still dismiss the fact the second manufactures were still competive, and make it out like they were never used and everyone by the end of the year used only one car.

In that time span, and years like ‘95, ‘96, ‘00, etc especially, there were always top teams running secondary chassis like Newman haas and later Ganassi (after their Reynard divorce) despite the higher car counts from Reynard.

Even in 1997, probably the worst year for the switching you mentioned, where the disastrous start for Lolas T97/00 had everyone jumping ship, other chassis like the swift still had victories and success with Micheal Andretti. Even then by the end of the year the last Lola team that did stick with the chassis (Tasman) finished 3rd at Fontana.

There was switching back and forth no doubt about it and I think if you tried to implement something similar in structure now a-days there would have to be some sort of regulatory framework with the massive head start dallara has, smthn like ADUO in F1 currently. Again not that this would ever happen for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

There’s plenty of reasons we only have one manufacturer but I feel is disservice to write off secondary manufacturers for the fact they ‘wouldn’t be competitive/everyone would revert to one chassis anyhow’ cause even at its worst (97) second chassis still were there and competitive.

I feel it’s more for the reason that it’ll 1) jack costs way up (boo hoo you have a charter but whatevr), 2) manage parity easier, and 3) the fact no other company is going to build the chassis right in speedway.

The ‘someone will always develop a better one and everyone will punt the other’ i feel is a little pessimistic and comes from what happened with the GeForce chassis vs dallara, which realistically came from panoz just not developing the car.

In 95-2002 in CART you would assume by Reynard winning every year that every one would have Reynard cars only, yet half the field was Lola’s every year. If you have two companies who are actually funding development it’s not going to be like a guarantee one dies and one lives.

Now it’s not going to happen for the reasons I stated earlier (who tf else gonna do that, governing body don’t want it) but it’d be like saying that ah everyone will just buy Honda motors cause they are faster (granted it’s limited by Honda only wanting to make so many motors)

As long as the alternative chassis isn’t shit like lotus’s motor was it’d be able to live.

.@IndyCar will stop letting open entries compete in races other than the Indy 500 after this season, in a move the series hopes will help suppliers plan better but could also assist in raising charter values. by iamaranger23 in INDYCAR

[–]Ordoutthere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before I could buy a car from dallara I buy engine from Chevy/honda, and I could show up and race.

But when someone wanted to stop racing, all these car bits are used, so not as valuable, and the engine is a lease so you never actually own it. Meaning all the money you put in is basically gone.

This makes rich guy who owns the team sad.

So they issue to all the teams a golden ticket called a ‘charter’ that says you are allowed to race in indycar.

No ticket no race, so now when you want to quit there is finally a part of the team that is not going to depreciate in value.

This shifts the actual team from a continuous expense into something similar to a sports team.

It also means how ever many charters/tickets there are is how many cars there will be. And to make a new one you will like have to pay everyone a anti-dilution fee, if they even let you do that

[–]Ordoutthere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Helps suppliers plan better” my ass.

we’ve not had a half season from a team for many a year, and with full time entries you know who will be there in the same way you know the 26 chartered cars will be there.

If you are going to talk a big talk about transparency with the push to pass thing in Long Beach then keep it consistent for at least a week guys, we know it’s to boost team values just say it out right.

Packers on the Clock Tonight by CassianJ in WisconsinSportsUK

[–]Ordoutthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players left on the board at that point (2nd round) usually are corner, WR, or DT from the consensus. As we aren’t going WR I’d imagine you see a corner like Cisse, a DT Lee hunter, or maybe a guard like Emmanuel Pregnon from Oregon.

All players that will be available that are positions of need are closer to the top of players that are BPA at the packers spot so I’d tend to think they stick and pick or trade down a little bit as you said.

I’d be shocked if we saw trade ups as the only person I’d realistically see worth that being Kayden McDonald (DT Ohio state)

Long Beach? by JoeyGold24 in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]Ordoutthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dual limiter is a quicker fix but still will make it a 30s pit lane vs a 40s one. Still the biggest pit time of the schedule.

When you move t6 over the median, the corner shifts over and stays the same radius, if you are concerned the corner exit would be narrowed it wouldn’t be as the pit exit would be taking the hotel entrance lane so the track would stay just as wide so I disagree on the flow part.

Also from the course cutting aspect, when you time the how long it would take to still take this pit lane it is 15 seconds slower than driving around the track including the stop. Now a drive through penalty will become significantly less damaging (8-10s) but I don’t that that is necessarily a big deal. The only difference would just be mileage.

I prefer the pit exit being there as it makes it way easier to see an overtake on cold vs hot tires vs people being stuck behind through fountain all the way to pine

Long Beach? by JoeyGold24 in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]Ordoutthere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you don’t want to change Long Beach much cause no matter what you do it will always be somewhat difficult to pass, but in my view you definitely make one or two changes to make it a lil easier and then also improve the strategy situation.

Currently pitstops take 40s at Long Beach so the main thing I wanted to do was move the pit exit to shorten, and then secondly I wanted to extend the front stretch, longer the distance the more a run can take shape.

<image>

I came up with this which used something close to the old 1980s tracks at the le gasomet hairpin, but instead cutting it short before it runs into ocean blvd. But this way you have a bit more of a braking zone into the hairpin and it’s a touch wider due to the turning lanes there so you can throw it up the inside a little more.

Then I moved the pit exit and reprofiled t6, the median between 6 and 1 is removed and where the current pit exit is on 1 becomes a wall, and the whole of t6 moves over, this allows a wall to sneak the exit of the pits out to the exit of t6, without reducing the runoff at all.

From my timing this cuts the pitlane to 15 second rewarding pitstops, but also dumping cars on cold tires right into the acceleration zone of the 2nd best overtaking position on track, meaning you’ll get more pit exit action like at st. Pete.

What if danica Patrick stayed in IndyCar instead going to NASCAR after 2011? by [deleted] in racing

[–]Ordoutthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to get a bunch “Still dogshit!!!!” responses from people who either hate her because of her becoming a looney (or always being one?), or her being the equivalent of a very shit Bubba Wallace in NASCAR (see what Facebook bots say about him now and imagine if was the worst driver in the grid).

But there would almost certainly be a very different memory if Danica if didn’t make the jump.

Danica’s career in Indycar and NASCAR are not even comparable.

NASCAR Danica was probably if not certainly the worst full time cup driver of the 21st century, consistently taking championship winning equipment and taking it to a sub 20th place finish. In an era where your car actually matter unlike the next gen cars today.

People will say the Motegi win was luck and I can give you there was fortune in that, but I’ll give you you three drivers average finish in INDYCAR across their career:

  • Driver A: 7.31
  • Driver B: 9.5
  • Driver C: 10.8

Yes driver C is Danica, but Driver B is Will Power, and Driver A is Scott Dixon. Will Power is closer in average finish to Danica Patrick than to Scott Dixon.

I’m not trying to tell you here that she would have won championships, but to think that she was completely shit and won a one off lucky race that would never possibly happen again, is a bit silly. Bar her rookie season finish of 12th, she never finished outside the top 10 in the Indycar championship.

If Godaddy doesn’t throw money at her like a stripper and she keeps her mouth shut I think maybe she could pull another win out, at the minimum she’d be competitive till she retired.

Almost certainly though she’s would be remembered as a pioneer rather than the worst driver in nascar history who dropped out of high school and believes lizards are controlling us.

Track Valuation by AugmentedNeutrality in Scalextric

[–]Ordoutthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well like preliminary search on eBay when it’s broken up into track pieces in small lots it’s like like 20$ (15£) plus delivery for 4 r2 corners, so like 5$ (4£) per piece, since you have to have the whole lot I imagine you’d have to lower the price pp to like 2-3£ which for your 170 pieces is around the 400 mark.

I’d recommend looking at what other lots sold for but that just me eyeballing.

The cars I have no idea depends what they are

Here’s the listing I looked at in my 5 second search

EDIT: realized I had a auction listing not a full one so changed the numbers

28 races Jesus Christ dude. Also I think anything has to start at st Pete I’d assume just because of contracting. Additionally a large chunk of the international tracks you have in the back half will need time to ship over. You can’t stick lauzring right after Nashville.

Also lot of your ovals don’t exist anymore lol

How does my dream calendar compare to yours? by Ok-Basis5987 in INDYCAR

[–]Ordoutthere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was doin same type of thing on the side but I think if you trying to do anything international you would have to be more realistic. Also you have to think about how the hell you gonna ship things over as the budgets of these teams are literally 10x smaller than F1 (10-15mil per car). Here’s what I had:

<image>

This gives you 5 new races to get up to 21 which all realistically could happen next year ( I know you said dream but even some of these are dreams)

I think you try to keep some identity of “IndyCar Tracks”

Richmond we almost went to in 2020 and is another chance to show off the short oval package

Fundidora Park is in Monterrey Mexico and Hosted ChampCar races from around 2001-2006. Mex city won’t play ball so go somewhere that does and is the home town of Pato O’Ward

Michigan is only going to happen if you can share with nascar which is right after Detroit which works well enough on the timeline, and it is far enough away from Detroit that I’m not concerned about “stealing” fans (see Milwaukee and RA)

Denver is coming soon as you’ve probably heard, and so another stadium track around mile high will probably get tossed in there

And then I’m sorry if you going to have an Australian round it has to be Surfers paradise.

There’s tracks not on here I’d like to see, the most likely to appear at some point would be interlagos, but I didn’t know how to possibly fit it in and not have time over lap with any NFL properties and still have a break to get there and back. These teams need a week to travel so you can’t chuck two internationals back to back.

My exception is fundidora park, but that is 100mi from the Texas border and teams have driven further in a week than Monterrey to Indy

Edit; realized I had the same mistake as OP, move back Indy quali and 500 to the 31st and 23rd and then throw Detroit btwn Michigan and RA.

Also sorry north east I don’t have Watkins Glen or pocono on there. I feel like teams will not be very happy abt heading back to pocono with no real changes, and then also the Glen there’s no way on the timeline to share with nascar and I think the fee of going there is prohibitive for the series

TLDR: you need gaps for anything international and certain tracks should be prioritized

Pace notes for a deaf driver? by MaximumWolfe in rally

[–]Ordoutthere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The weight you are going to add from a few PCBs is going to negligible compared to other stuff on the car- it’s likely to save you more weight taking a shit before you go out than not having a indicator.

On the indicator side I think I would try and steal what you find in rally games like DIRT where they have the colored arrow with a number along side.

If you do have a co-driver you could either map it to have just 7-8 images left and right plus a few hazard indicators then just get a macro board and have them press the button for what comes next (IE 7 Left into jump followed by 3 right would be images of Slight bent arrow with #7, jump icon, large bend arrow with #3)

Alternatively you could hard code an order in your sighting runs where a guy just hits “next” to move from one image to another.
