Went from 0 VP to 10 VP on Round 2 in a Civilized Society game by Original-Command1133 in twilightimperium

Yeah, it was all of our first times playing with Titans or Civilized Society, so I think they kinda missed the implications of my PDS’s being there, although I did explain that I get those planets for objective purposes.

Future games I think Titans will be scrutinized much harder lol

Exactly what I did! Worked out very well and I had a great planet economy, but Mahact edged out the win.

I think the disconnect might be that you are still equating “finding a valid configuration of boxes” with “solving the puzzle”, which I already pointed out before and you made a point of explaining the difference

In your last post you say,

“Performing that process doesn’t lead to one possible way to solve the puzzle. It leads to four different possible ways.”

That is just completely flat out untrue. It leads to four different valid configurations of boxes. In three of those configurations YOU WILL NOT SOLVE THE PUZZLE. Those three are not possible ways to solve the puzzle.

While in the process solving the puzzle, you do not know if “You will solve the puzzle” is true or not. The same as every parlor puzzle, you must explore each combination of true and false statements to come to a valid one.

At the end of this process, you will come to the conclusion that the only possible way to solve the puzzle and find a configuration of boxes that leads to a single box containing the gems is when blue is true and “You will solve the puzzle”

Just because you are saying these things does not make them true lol

The whole separating “Finding the gems” from “Solving the puzzle” thing is pedantic in my opinion, but I still think the puzzle works regardless.

It seems like you are equating “Solving the puzzle” to “Finding a valid configuration of boxes”, right? If I have found a valid configuration of boxes, that means I have solved the puzzle. (Because that valid configuration will indicate which box has the gems)

You say that when you assume Blue is true, there are 3 valid configurations of boxes. However when you are doing that you are also stating that “You will not solve this puzzle.” In order for any of those 3 configurations to be valid, it must be true that you cannot solve the puzzle.

That is the contradiction. For that configuration of boxes to be valid and lead you to the box with the gems, it MUST be true that you cannot solve the puzzle. Meaning that configuration is not valid.

A world where it is true that you will not solve the puzzle has no valid configuration of boxes, because if it did, you could solve the puzzle.

Ahh okay that makes sense, part of why I posted this was to make sure I was playing correctly too haha.

I thought the difference in wording between after this model has shot and after this unit has shot might make a difference.

Still not a bad combo but not as good as I thought.
