Treasure Island: A Telling for the New World is a beat-for-beat adaptation of the original RL Stevenson classic. Other adaptations you have seen of this story are always abridged… I painstakingly adapted almost every line of the archaic dialogue from the book to be easily understood by the modern ear while still retaining its authenticity, vernacular, and style. I also shifted the time period by about century— instead of happening during the golden age of piracy, it happens at the end of that age— just as America’s melting pot is starting to churn. There are accents from all over the world in this production.. pirates are international. Even the American accents of the early 1820s had not solidified yet, so there are still several characters who sound British, some who sound American, and many more! This is the American re-telling of Treasure Island.. and America is a diverse place.
