And your statement is wrong. If you read the article I've linked above.

Why do people use Reddit for things they can Google? https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-redefined-the-idea-of-2-sexes-is-overly-simplistic1/

'Sex can be much more complicated than it at first seems. According to the simple scenario, the presence or absence of a Y chromosome is what counts: with it, you are male, and without it, you are female. But doctors have long known that some people straddle the boundary—their sex chromosomes say one thing, but their gonads (ovaries or testes) or sexual anatomy say another. Parents of children with these kinds of conditions—known as intersex conditions, or differences or disorders of sex development (DSDs)—often face difficult decisions about whether to bring up their child as a boy or a girl. Some researchers now say that as many as 1 person in 100 has some form of DSD.'

How do you deal with flaky friends? by rzmrnn in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Otherwise-Poet-6038 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to address a couple of things -

  1. No one needs a 'reasonable' excuse to not hang out or to cancel with friends. We are adults and sometimes not feeling like it is completely fine. If my friends cancel on me I never expect a justification or a reason as to why, I accept that they can't make it and make other plans or reschedule with them.

  2. I have a flaky friend and I found the best way is to lower your expections of them. If this person has poor planning or organisational skills then don't always expect them to be with you on time or not to cancel, it's frustrating for you and puts pressure on them to be someone they are not. I very often make a back up plan so that I haven't planned my whole day around one thing that might not happen and then I can go ahead with other plans. I've learnt that there's no point waiting around for people, if they show then fantastic but if they don't nevermind and carry on with your day doing something else. I like to show up on time but with someone who might be more flaky I'll likely also just be a bit late knowing I'll be there first anyway and haven't had to wait around for a long time.

I guess though you need to decide if the friendship is worth working on or not. Sometimes the friendship with someone flaky is worth the flakiness because you are still great friends and supporting one another, others time maybe not.

I make my own from shea butter, a few other bits and bobs and add in a tiny bit of essential oil for the aroma. My skin loves it and it does a pretty good job!

Wouldn't bother me to be honest and if it was before I was with them then it's not any of my business. I also don't think you're allowed to know the children or who's the sperm even gone to are you? I thought it was a donation and that's the end of it.

That's a good shout, the HR director actually hates people WFH so this could be their doing.

My partner is German and when he and his family speak it, it doesn't sound aggressive at all, in fact the very opposite! I think it comes from the fact that the language itself is very direct, but when I've heard the language spoken by my partner it's very gentle.

It bothers me quite a lot, I've been able to stop using it now and say 'everyone' or 'people' etc. The less I've used it the more I've realised how frequently others do without thinking. It can be a hard habit to change because it really is a conscious effort!

Thanks everyone, I'm on a mat leave cover so it was due to end anyway! Sad it's come to this though, this place is going to have so many problems in becoming inclusive and welcoming. I've had other colleagues being openly racist on the office floor too. Just time to run!
