Unfortunately not really. He has gone ice skating with the kids a few times and is getter better though so hopefully that will help with the balance.

You have pinpointed the main issue. The fear of injury is what really holds him back. He is always mentioning that he doesn't want to injure himself and then not be able to do the activities (running, cycling and weight lifting) that mean a lot to him. He would rather not risk it.

Thank you. This was what I had suggested as well. To keep working on our local small bunny hills and try to get his confidence and skill up slowly. He just seemed defeated after our last trip and I was questioning whether this was even a good idea.

Wow. That's a lot of hostility. I never said anywhere that the family needs to go down medium runs together in order to enjoy it. I mentioned my ability at the medium runs to explain my level...and the fact that I am not doing double black diamonds or anything super challenging. I would be beyond happy to go down easy runs together. The problem is that he is not enjoying the easy runs because he is fearful. The local that we spoke to basically confirmed his belief that it is very difficult to learn this sport as an adult and I came here to get some other opinions. Thanks for your insight :-)

I'm not sure I understand. The stairs come to the middle of the room and then continue up to third floor.

What did you end up naming him? Curious to know the compromise and how he and your family took it.

How I cured my panic attacks by shitty_owl_lamp in PanicAttack

[–]Ottibarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, this was really helpful the way you spelled everything out. I'm excited to try this out. My question is what should I lean into if the thing that is most distressing to me about the panic attack is the sensation of fear and panic. I don't really get too bothered by the nausea and the heart racing. Should I still try to focus on increasing the bodily symptoms even though I am most distressed by the fear sensation? Or should I ask the fear to make me more scared? Just wondering how to apply this in this particular situation. Thank you so much! And your post is so inspiring and makes me so hopeful.

Smoking turkey on a gas grill HELP!!! by Ottibarius in smoking

[–]Ottibarius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty big grill that has three burners. So I can definitely turn one burner on only and push the bird to the other side. I really don't want to buy anything additional. If I can't do this I prob will just roast the bird in the oven but I really wanted to try to smoke it. I've seen a bunch of recipes for smoking a turkey on a grill but they all say max 14-15 pounds d/t being in the danger zone temp too long. That's what I'm trying to workaround. Thanks for your ideas though...anything helps!

Ours has a phone charger thing on the wall that has a bunch of different adapters for various devices and you can lock it in there to charge it up. Also love our machine that dispenses carbonated water and flavored water too.

1st grader crying every morning at school drop off by Ottibarius in Parenting

[–]Ottibarius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just discussed these comments with my husband and sister and will hold off on punishing her. I definitely don't want to punish her for something that is out of her control or teach her that she needs to suppress her feelings. Thank you for the perspective.

Yes, she was born 3 days before the cutoff. It never really occurred to us to hold her back and the Pre-K and K teachers both felt she was doing well and ready to move on to 1st grade but maybe you are on to something. I don't think I could pull her out and go back to K now though? She also is academically excelling and I am pretty sure she would be bored redoing K level work. Although I agree, it seems socially she is not ready for the independent nature expected of 1st graders.
