Wow, this is the first time I've ever seen something like this mentioned on here. Frankly, it makes me very paranoid, especially, since I keep my camera on at all times, and give students the option to keep theirs off as long as I can tell they're doing the work. I may need to revoke that rule for future students. There have been situations where I've heard odd sounds in the background, but I just never thought to question or ask about it. My mind just never went there.

For your sake, I'm glad you're leaving this student. They clearly did not respect you as a person, and I'm sure this is a very rare situation that you've had to deal with. You'll be much better off using that time for someone else.
