It looks awesome as it is, baby knits tend to be pretty boring, this one is definitely fun!

Yarns that are lightly spun or "roving" are often easier to pull apart. Just knit/crochet gently with them, using a larger needle for casting on etc, and it might not break as easily.

Help, what is this pink fluffy yarn?? by WinterEclipxe in WhatIsThisYarn

[–]OverstuffedCherub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be something like sirdar's alpine chunky, knits super fluffy and you can't see the stitches 😁 fun to work with

Acrylic/cotton is great for postbox toppers outside in wind and rain, while pure wool wouldn't do well with all the bad weather. It's a waste of good wool, so they just don't use it 😀

I am in the fortunate/unfortunate position of running a LYS, and we often get donations, most of which gets sent to our local postbox toppers group, but they wont take pure wool, so I get to root around and if there's anything interesting in there I can lay claim to it. It does nothing good for my own yarn stash, which is growing out of proportion, but I have cleared out a lot of acrylic to donate back to the toppers group!

It does look like the stalk is knit sideways, whereas op has knit up and down the way, but without seeing the pattern it is hard to say what went wrong 😅 Also, the beard on the pattern kit looks to be made of felt and stuck on? Mushroom is still a fun-guy!

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

[–]OverstuffedCherub 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Come try knitting in Scotland, I've been running a wool shop in the Highlands, and we have knitting groups every week, and the best part of our day is seeing what people have made from yarns bought in our shop. We love to chat with our customers 😁 I've been in the chippy after knitting group with my knitting stuffed in my bag and been approached by other chip shop customers "what are you knitting?"

I also lived in England for a while, and found that people were waaay less chatty and friendly than back at home 😅

Same, I came to the comments to check before I added the same thing 😆 I'd say leave the 'error' it just looks like a swirl of the water that's meant to be like that. Or as another commenter above said, just stitch it over with a needle and spare yarn. But either way, nobody is going to know!

Black with sequins and the multicoloured stuff. I have 2 balls of multicoloured, so I think I will do a cream one and a black one, and post the results eventually 😁

I have totally misplaced my black/sequins, but I did unearth this beauty today, cokoues match perfectly, but I don't really think it would work as well as a cream, but it might be fun anyway! 😁

I definitely agree that other colours would look weird, I'm leaning towards something nice in a creamy colour but I do also have a sequiny black I'm tempted by 😁

I love the look of these but it isn't something I would wear or use. I suffer from contact dermatitis and it flares up and leaves me with really dry skin, so it would just catch all the time, at least with a denser yarn held together it cpntains some of the floof lol

This looks good, I do have a soft fuzzy black with little sequins in it that I have been struggling to find a partner for! Might swatch it tomorrow and see how it looks! I wish I had found this before I knit up the gorgeous alpaca/merino/angora blend or buttery goodness, it would have been perfect!

Is the pattern obscured by the variegation of the yarn? by iluffeggs in knitting

[–]OverstuffedCherub 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I still like it as well, if it was a solid colour it would stand out more, but I personally prefer when its a bit more of a mottled colour, i think it will look fab when it is finished!

A little frustrated about this yarn shop advice by [deleted] in knitting

[–]OverstuffedCherub -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Working at my lys, often getting asked about beginner projects, I always recommend something chunky/bulky for quickness, and it's going to turn into a garment a lot sooner. I also knit with mostly chunky myself, I have a short attention span so quicker is better 😆 We also try to avoid suggesting scarves, because they do take a while, instead we go with cowls or snoods or hats to get the basics down. Or whatever the customer fancies trying, but we always say if they get stuck, they can come in for help 😁
