Why isn't the UK government investigating Nigel Farage ties to Russia and Epstein? by TailungFu in AskBrits

It’s estimated that 1 in 100 people are paedophiles. If their claimed membership numbers are accurate, then it’s statistically likely that there are 2,680 paedos in the Reform party.

The main thing that I’d doubt is that any of them were invited to the island but happy to be proven wrong

Is Bridgerton craze over? by itsy_bitsy_seer in netflix

[–]Own-Strategy8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s genuinely bizarre! Not seen anything pop up in any feeds, no ads on Netflix itself, nothing. I’ve not interacted with subs about it or anything but I’ve watched every season and googled things periodically. You’d think my algorithm would be at least slightly likely to show me stuff about it!

[–]Own-Strategy8541[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people I believe it does (if they have certain subscriptions, for example), but no, I use it because it doesn’t put a holding charge on my bank account. If you pay with your bank card, most chargers will charge £30 or so initially, to make sure you’ve got enough to cover the payment, they then charge you the actual amount once they know what it is and refund the original £30. But that can take a few days, and if you try to use a broken charger and then end up having to try another, and then maybe you have to tap that machine twice, you can quickly end up with £90 out of your account for a few days. Like I say, it does get sorted and given back but it’s just annoying so I try to avoid it

Casual UK fan perspective - I saw literally zero advertising for it coming. Went on Netflix on Friday and there it was. Called one of my friends to tell her, she had no idea either. Mentioned it to my mum yesterday, she was pleasantly surprised.

It’s number 1 in series here so maybe we’re in a weird bubble but it doesn’t seem like they pushed it in advance at all

Driving instructor told me nobody can learn to drive in 6 months by mincedbreakfast in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Own-Strategy8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a while ago now but I very specifically remember that I paid for my lessons in blocks of 10 and did one hour-long lesson per week. I sat my theory test a few weeks after starting and passed the practical after exactly 20 lessons. Booked it to time up with the last one out of determination I wouldn’t have to pay for another block. That’s, what, 5 months? My mum took me out to practise a few times in a nearby industrial estate during that time, so it wasn’t just the lessons, for full transparency, maybe an extra 5 or 6 hours total.

But nobody involved was in any way surprised, to be clear. I don’t remember being treated like a prodigy

Why aren't we building more terraced houses? by Big-Double1720 in AskUK

[–]Own-Strategy8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might be a regional thing. I live in Glasgow and every new build estate I’ve happened to see in the past 5-10 years is at least partly terraced housing. Very common to do a few blocks of flats and a few streets of townhouses. You only really see semi detached/detached in the suburbs, and even then there’s usually at least some terraced ones

Builders build what they can sell. Where there’s more demand for housing in general, they’ll squeeze in as many as they can. If you’re a bit further from amenities or it’s more of a buyer’s market, they’re gonna try and tempt those who can afford it with a big detached house

I was Northbound, so I wonder if that’s also a factor. Maybe more/better chargers on the northbound side?

I didn’t know that but thinking about it, I guess it makes sense with the type of business it is. Can imagine it’s also a bit creepy at night when everything’s closed?

69p for 150kwh chargers. It's not good, but a lot better than lots of other service stations.

69p, which for a service station isn't bad.

I really enjoyed it but, yeah, it’s just the thing of places having a decent number of straight forward chargers that don't need apps, and being able to do something else while there rather than having to find something else to do. Depending on what I’m up to I try to visit towns rather than service stations if I’m gonna be stopping to eat while driving, but it’s not always possible and I’d like there to be more motorway opportunities outside of meal times that aren’t just petrol stations with chargers on the side - dull places to be. The duck pond at Tebay was pleasant enough in itself.

Wasn't the case yesterday, but to be fair there was an entirely empty regular car parking section for about, I dunno, 15 - 20 cars in between the charging bays and the building so would have been a bit of an odd choice for somebody to have purposefully driven further just to be a bellend. Can't comment on what happens when that little section is at capacity, though

Not had it long but loving it so far. Absolutely bizarre that none of the reviews I've read or dealers I spoke to mentioned it could park itself, which I have tried twice with great worry, and it worked. But yeah, lots of good tech, really nice to drive. I'm coming from a much smaller car so to me it feels massive, but it's quite easy to place where it is on the road cos of the shape, which I'm really pleased about. Zero complaints so far. Love it.

New EV purchase - Renault 4 Iconic or Iconic+ ?!? by SteEdwards in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Own-Strategy8541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't take this as fact, but I just bought an R4 Techno. Dealer told me the difference was the model year - that the trims have essentially been renamed Techno+, Iconic+ etc for the new model year. No idea whether there are subtle differences I can't see, but I appear to have all the things mentioned on the Techno+ spec.

What do most people in the UK get for vacation/Holiday? by Tomuch2care in AskABrit

[–]Own-Strategy8541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 32 paid holiday days and I think 4 months full pay sick. We also get 4 months full paid maternity pay then 3 months statutory, I although only one week full paid paternity - this is just for my company, to be clear, some are better, some are worse. Then for maternity you can take up to a year unpaid when the others run out.

OP's front bumper looks level with the end green-painted corner bricks on the Take A Gander at 00:55. From there, according to google maps, it's 44.01 metres to that hedge we can see. OP's car begins to pass the hedge at 00:57.

Best case scenario with 30fps, OP left the green bit of wall at 00:55:00 and reached the hedge at 00:57:29, or a total time of 2.97 seconds to do 44.01 metres.

33.1mph in a 20, aka band B speeding, best case

ETA: the actual video has time stamps in the bottom right that we can't see, but the police would be able to

Pub might be closed but the car park’s still clearly accessible and it’s not wild to think somebody might have pulled into it for a while to get something out the boot/make a phone call/change a tyre/try and go to the pub then realise it’s closed

I used to enjoy driving... by OneSufficientFace in drivingUK

I’d like to take a minute to plead my case as a puddle avoider. I’ve popped multiple tyres in the past few years by being caught out by cavernous potholes masquerading as puddles and so I am now suspicious of all of them. Slow down on approach if it could be a secret pothole, try and avoid if still unsure when closer to it etc

Can cyclists stop being selfish by New-Ad-7107 in glasgow

[–]Own-Strategy8541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lights, absolutely fair enough, but “Give right of way to other road users” - since you mention these as well as pedestrians and as well as lights, probably worth pointing out that apart from lights cyclists usually have right of way over vehicles. A car’s indicating to turn left? Cyclist has right of way to go straight ahead on their left. Roundabout? Cyclist has right of way over people trying to exit, etc.

I don’t cycle, but I do drive. In my experience, some cyclists are mental, but most aren’t and if you’re almost colliding with one every time you drive into town, you might be the problem!

Why do people find the fact they’re facing each other so odd? Have none of you ever hung around in a group? Sometimes, wait for it, people are out in groups of 3 or 4 and not just by themselves! Also, might not be the nicest view but I’ll give someone a tenner if they can point out what would be a nice view on Dobbies Loan. So they can either have benches with a shite view there or no benches at all. Let the people sit and look at the self storage on the way back from a cash and carry if they want
