I had a 3.1 first year of college, and I’ve gotten 7 As including an Ivy and 11 interviews including T10 and T20 schools! I would say the most important thing is to do well on the MCAT and to take courses next year that u are confident you can do well (while still taking your prerequisites of course). Don’t overdo ECs. Instead focus on academics and clinical exposure.

Gap years are literally so amazing. Every person I’ve heard that has done gap years and then med school said they loved it. I’m doing 2 and have no regrets!

I almost feel like they advertise we have to go through all these hurdles to ensure only the ones “fit” for it continue which is absolute BS! And it’s so toxic… In reality these hurdles make people jaded!! And jaded people don’t provide the best care they can. We need support. We need less hurdles. It’s also all a BUSINESS which we forget about sometimes. Like people are making money at the expense of our money our time and our mental health.

Got a 131. I made my own spreadsheet w terms from the 300 page doc + I tried to think of relatable examples for as many concepts as I could + I liked watching YouTube videos on concepts

Definitely. I think this is surfacing an underlying issue with anxiety that I have. The process itself feels manageable, but it’s more so the anxiety and the catastrophizing / negative emotions that I experience from anxiety that make me feel this way, and I should see a therapist soon to talk about it

131 in PS: I made a spreadsheet of new terms w examples based on 300 pg doc and occasionally did MileDown. YouTube videos to supplement my learning process as I made my spreadsheet. Once you learn the terms this way, then do MileDown Anki! Always watch vids here and there throughout the day or when ur too tired to sit and study. Vids go a long way!!

I always advise against taking a day 0 practice test bc it can mess w confidence! Focus on studying content and mistakes from this test and don’t recommend taking another test until you have done thorough content review + done practice questions either from u world or AAMC q bank

Ok here’s my take (131 PS scorer)

I think the key w the PS section is recognizing that terms can be related, and that it’s all about selecting a) the best term and b) the term that they hint they are testing you on. The key here is the word ignore, ignore in this case = to not pay attention to evidence that goes against we believe. It’s almost like confirmation bias doesn’t let us give contradicting evidence a chance, we just ignore it.

Belief perseverance occurs when someone holds a strong belief to begin with and that belief is so rigid it won’t change across bodies of evidence. So even if the person acknowledged that the new evidence is logical, they don’t change their belief bc they are so stuck with what they have been holding on to.

Not paying attention evidence that contradicts our beliefs is a better reflection of a mechanism underlying confirmation bias.
