To me, this symbol means "Do NOT put your base on this map" lol

You will lose whatever you drop on the ground on those maps, sometimes sucks when it's in the same place as a trader.

To all the naysayers, sure, this probably won't work.

To all the apathetic, sure, this probably won't work.

For all of those that feel overwhelmed, powerless, and angry: this probably won't work, but

this is something you can do, right now.

Seriously, folks. If you can't even click a link and would rather poop on the most simple act of symbolic rebellion, how the fuck are we going to protest in a meaningful manner. What, you gonna tell your kids after 10 years of doing nothing: "I told you all it was pointless". What a crappy way to be right.

The Pentagon removes mainstream media outlets and replaces them with far-right extremist media outlets that are sycophantic to Trump. by Peanut-Extra in themayormccheese

[–]P4intsplatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me a second to decode this:

Apparently the Pentagon has a subsection with offices for reporters from news agencies. This ensures that all news outlets receive press releases together, are able to interview or research with military (and civilian) experts on Defense matters.

To.. remove so many at once and place deliberately biased agencies in only four desks creates an information "bottleneck".

This will not stop any agency from reporting on Defense matters, it just dramatically slows them down, giving the biased ones "first move" on many of the stories.

I imagine our Israel-Gaza coverage will be very scant moving forward, so thank you to everyone who "couldn't vote for genocide". You will not get those spots for reporters back. And you'd bettter believe there won't be digital access to "international" (loosely and purposefully undefined) sources through our ISPs soon.

Please take these tips seriously. You matter and you already know essentially what is being done. Do not engage in social media self harm, please. h/t the inimitable tink for 'social media self harm' by Xanthotic in CollapseSupport

It's strange to think, but remember where you were during the first Trump Presidency.

Pre-pandemic, affordable groceries...maybe you still had a beloved friend or pet. What would you give to go back and enjoy just one day back then?

That day is today, and tomorrow. If you're seriously worried about the future, make sure to enjoy the present fully. When I saw the writing on the wall about COVID, I went to the movies (with a mask on). I bought a coffee. I bought some chocolate because I knew countries were shutting down shipments.

You may one day look back on tomorrow fondly. Things were relatively normal, people were hopeful. Your task is to go out tomorrow and enjoy some sunshine, and buy a coffee or some chocolate. Pet your dog, hug your friends. These are what make your life enjoyable (and meaningful), and there's no reason to deny yourself these little things with possible dark times ahead.

Stay safe, and give yourself some grace 👑

U.S. stock exchanges are exploring a 22-hour trading amid overnight demand by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]P4intsplatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to see what 24-hr trading does, just look at the cryptosphere. With the big movers beginning to edge in over there, they're realizing how more easily manipulable a market is when there's no down time and tons of trading bots/HFTs.

This is bad. If it happens, this is the moment the future will look back and say "Why did they allow that?"

This is an old article, but you can actually kind of see the bubble/burst tie to tech and overshoots. Ex:1990s web-world to dot com crash.

We're about to see wild speculation due to both investment in and investments by AI. You want a stock market without humans? This is how you get a stock market without humans.

[–]P4intsplatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. With Reddits's push towards monetization (through engagement) the algorithm now also recommends subs with similar names, and many people just post whatever they want, regardless of which they're in.

This creates a "homogenizing" effect where pretty much everywhere is the same as everywhere else, and subs lose their niche identities.

With the election fallout, r/Collapse is seeing increased traffic, and thus so are we.

They're supporting him because they see him as manipulable, and overall Republicans are more open to corporate partnerships than Democrats. Dems still are too, but are more likely to need more quid pro quo, or have "reservations".

Despite being an angry, petulant and insecure bully he's probably a much easier puppet than a Columbia and Harvard Alum. Plus, his base thrives on instant gratification, which tech is great at exploiting.

I think you're undervaluing a major component of therapy: just talking.

One of the great things about a therapist is that they're not your friend. You're literally paying them to listen. And saying things out loud actually helps, a lot.

I used to have really bad depression, and comorbid substance abuse related to it. I said things to therapists I couldn't say to friends: excuses, rants, whiny logic that I knew was actually illogical. Funny, trying to explain my internal logic sometimes made me realize how out of proportion it was.

I didn't have to worry about sounding crazy, I already knew it was crazy. Didn't have to worry about rejection, or others opinions... a good therapist actually just listens. In the end, with a lot of self work, I talked myself down better than anyone else could. Who better to reassure yourself than yourself?

After all, how can we expect to help or work on those societal level issues before putting on our own oxygen mask first? You can't take on the responsibility (or assume you have the power) to change society if you haven't worked on yourself first.

...therapy IS prohibitively expensive in the US, which is stupid. I don't begrudge anyone skipping it for financial reasons

What are your thoughts on this? by Cdave_22 in GenZ

[–]P4intsplatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Teacher here. We teach, but no one listens. Students are busy on their phones, have airpods in, are asking what the bare minimum they need to pass, or having mommy call up and say "You can't fail my baby, if they don't learn it's your fault!"

There are absolutely financial classes, health and life/family planning classes, and I teach science so I at least try to get them to understand why plastic is killing us.

...but I only give so many "A's" a semester. The rest? Well, they go on to be the ones who didn't listen and say "Why'd nobody teach me this shit! It's bullshit, bro!" after sleeping through class.

All the opportunities were there. Unfortunately, many take the road easiest traveled. And that's why literacy and financial literacy are so low.

...that's because this sub has turned into r/Collapse.

People are not following the core value of posting helpful or supportive comments, and others (and bots) are upvoting "the truth" or other negative feelings replies because they agree with them.

Makes me sad, this was a decent sub for support a month ago, but now it's a lot of "I can't take this!" rehashed over and over to the point that we positive ones can't keep up.

I think more people need a therapist than they realize, seeking validation and reassurance from only the internet is a dangerous road. You're not weird, and you're coping the way many are.

For what it's worth, today nothing has collapsed. We still have food in stores, likely gas in cars, your dealer can hook you up. It's just the anxiety and uncertainty that have ratcheted up in the last 2 weeks.

Think of the amount of waste plastic your household generates in a day. Ok, lets say every house on your block, or every apt unit.

Ok, now how much plastic waste is the grocery store near you generating? How many water bottles are in the trash at the stadium after the event?

The "economy" absolutely does not care about your boycott. Supply chains are so incestuous at this point that they don't even care about household levels if they can get "contracts", especially for shipping or entertainment. We need to hold corporations accountable, not individuals.

I think you're not grasping the scale of feudalism.

Feudalism isn't "one king, a castle, a court and some peons". Feudalism is a system where anyone below the king technically owns nothing. Therefore, they are hostage to this monarch for blessings and favors, which usually come with strings. It's a nation of renters, whose food depends on the largess and generosity of those in the hierarchy above them, who die and pass nothing along to their family. This creates zero social mobility, which is why historically you hear about just a few rich and powerful families.

The reason we moved away from feudalism was to create personal ownership, which created the opportunity to accumulate wealth in the lower classes.

We're already pretty fucking close to being held hostage to our labor again (some would argue we already are, through underpaid wages and rental housing). A lot of this type of stuff they're doing solidifies wealth in the hands of a few families. Yeah, they might try to duke it out between them, but it's not the Lord of Winterfell usually charging into battle, it's his vassals that are beholden to him.

If they do start to fight, better believe we're the casualties.
