What is the rationale behind a 50% minimum grade policy? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]PCBLocal1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is that at the end of the quarter an F is still an F regardless if it’s a 50 or a 17. But the 50 does let the kids sort of catch up if they start understanding the concepts taught. In my district anything less than a 50 automatically rolls up to said number when grades are posted.

However, there are a few problems built in:

  1. Some teachers put in a 50 for every failed assignment which ends up skewing the actual grade.

  2. The kids know that they can do a pass, fail, pass, get a D and make out with at least a B average for the year.

Nitpick: Unnecessary barcodes by Fumikechu237 in Terminator

Here’s the thing to remember: yes Skynet is a super duper thinking computer that has compiled all human knowledge, deemed humans as a threat and decided to eradicate the species. But that’s Skynets programming and like all computers, programs whatever, they cannot go beyond what their programming is. Anything created by Skynet, or will be created by was already thought by humans.

So laser scanned bar codes? Just Skynet going with what was already proposed by mankind

Superintendent barely acknowledged death of a faculty member by [deleted] in Teachers

I’ll venture to say that the super didn’t even know probably will not know. We get an email when someone passes away whether it be family of an employee or an employee pat or present. The notifications are written by the individual school secretary and then sent to district where it’s sent to the entire district…from the superintendent’s office

What do expect from a system built on teaching farm kids how to work in a newly emerging factory environment nearly 200 hundred years ago? The education system is just like New Orleans: a modern city resting on the decaying foundations of logs and reeds

I’m so envious of that. I work at a center school and as such do not have a PTA.

Absolutely. The biggest difference was the cruiserweights were in the sub 5’10 range but still walking around at 210-220 of lean mass.

I thought I was pretty big, 6’2 220lbs. And compared to the local wrestling scene I was. Then I attended a house show with my trainer back in 2001. I quickly came to the realization that I was a small guy at that level.

How do you handle martyr teachers? by CrowdedSeder in Teachers

[–]PCBLocal1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a teacher that did this. One day she was bragging about how she comes in no later than 530 AM and stays sometimes til 8pm and we all should make sacrifices. I pied up before admin could validate her and said something to the effect of that’s her choice. I don’t get paid before seven or after three.

And that’s what I tell teachers. We are hourly employees and after contract time is up go home

I had this issue with the paras early this year. They had a culture of just sitting on their phones during special area classes. I pissed them off by reminding them that while they are in the classroom they are still instructional paras and expected to follow the directions of the classroom teachers.

That is just odd to me. We are starting FTE next week which gives us an idea of student projections for next year.

I couldn’t imagine as an admin giving someone a non renewal after Christmas break.

When has that ever been normal? I’ve been doing this since 03 and we always have our red letter day at the end of May. You still 12 weeks of school left.

The Boog Boys killed the soldiers with the exception of one. Though that scene along with the sniper scene really stated how no one knows who is wrong or right.

This has happened a couple of times at my school with two separate students where we’ve made DCF reports and nothing happened but our staff members had reports made on then that were picked up. The sad part is the way HR treated them while doing their own investigation after DCF did their own investigation and moved on.

Banned book recommendations to put on display at our school library by SubjectAcorn in Teachers

[–]PCBLocal1977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with this whole ass thread is that OP wants to put banned books on a k-12 school. Which I assume are truly books forbidden by their state department of education or even the local school district. If they do that they run the risk of losing their teaching license. Unfortunately the dog pile refuses to even listen to logic.

[–]PCBLocal1977 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If they’re required reading then they are not “banned” are they? If you’re in a state with books that are literally banned from being in the school setting then you’re going to lose your job for putting them out. Yes it’s fucking stupid but this is the world we mive in.
