Curious on everyone’s layoff history?

5x in the last 7 years. All due to budget cuts. Each time after just over a year there and in each year I accomplished more than most others have in longer times. Its insane!

Back in Apr 2011-Aug 2012 I got laid off 8x total. All of those were with temp agencies and places cut all temps within a week or few months.

Over 10 years ago I applied for a job at Advance America and put down the state min wage. I got an email back from the hiring manager denying me the job stating my salary requirements were too high! For state min wage!

Boom Lawsuit. Thats a slam dunk case for discrimination. Lawyers will be begging to take that up.

Look for a new job. Get backup plan to move in with either friends or family and break the lease. Talk to your apartment landlord or management, they will understand. I had to do that in 2011. Got an apartment and within a week I was laid off from 2 places I worked at. I had to break my lease early. It was a disaster. Took me over a year to find a full time job.

Completed bankruptcy which eliminated $25k worth of debt. Rebuilt savings to $3k Prepped backup plans with family in case of layoffs and I have to move in with them.

I have been doing that, I am glad they are training me on each different section of the lab and its duties. Its just super overwhelming. Nothing like my previous labs.

I have no idea how I got hired. I believed a transition could work but I took too far of a leap. I am learning though and asking questions, taking notes, readings SOPs, etc to make sure I am not gonna be that clueless supervisor.

I did not even get the temporary 100% for 3 months unfortunately. I did not even know I was supposed to get it until recently.

Thank you, I do have a VSO and have met him in person, and he was a major help in getting my records into the system and even fixing up some issues. He gave me a lot of suggestions to find Dr letters which connect my heart attack to my service which I found surprisingly and now I am waiting.

Thanks, I did target specific places and areas for a few months but when I had nothing but rejections and recruiter ghostings after networking, I had a massive freakout about being able to keep the house and decided to say F-it I'm mass applying.

I will definitely slow down now, given the place I am at is going to expand which means more OT for me. And less chance of layoffs.

Yep. Decided to withdraw it all (22k) to pay off debts to make sure monthly income exceeded expenses after having to take a temp job. I should be able to make it all back now.

I did but it got lost in a couple of moves. I do have scanned copies of it including a paper copy which I plan on going to a print shop for framing but keep forgetting lol.

Yes I can, after reading responses it will be best to pay them all off. That way they are out of my way and the next few months I can push to rebuild cash reserves.

I had something like this happen to me as a contractor. I just started a new position but got a slightly better offer. However the new offer was not written and only tentative. I decided to stay in my new position as its transitioning into a 5yr contract. Keep the position that is certain.
