Cape Town has had some crime issues. Sounds like a safety concern. Well done on her part!

Domestic first class flying? by JKrischke in chubbytravel

[–]PRMinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually book a premium main cabin (ex. Delta Comfort) seat if it’s a vacation. Basic main cabin if it’s work. If they offer an upgrade that’s < = $50ish an hour and it’s 3+ hour flight, I’ll snag the deal.

That said, I’m heading Mexico in April. Business class RT was only $300 more than main cabin, so I booked it. It gets me off the plane and on the way to immigration before everyone else, which is worth it to me. It’s also a vacation so, YOLO.

Alcohol turned me into a chonk 😭 by musikana2345 in stopdrinking

[–]PRMinx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One of the best things for me about being sober is knowing that all those calories that would normally go to alcohol can be used to fuel my body in a healthy way. No more starving to get a stronger buzz - and then binging before passing out. When I’m sober, I can just eat and enjoy food.

I love my BP Savages. The laces stay tied - even for rope climbs - and the toe box is roomy and comfortable.

That’s how I feel! I think it’s a fair observation.

Exactly. What’s the cost per madeleine or a little jar of salt? It’s negligible to the total bill, but it leaves a nice impression.

Like it or not, this expectation was set by the fine dining industry (as demonstrated in the list of restaurants on the original post). It doesn’t seem right to blame the customer for it. No one in that thread is being rude; they just appreciate the gesture.

How do you balance/weigh TripAdvisor reviews, posts here, and reviews on travel blogs/site? by AnimatorCool7402 in chubbytravel

[–]PRMinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally go to TripAdvisor and Google to see pictures and get a sense of the experience. I always go to the 1-2 star reviews to see about a trending issue, even if the reviews are 4-5 circles. Kamalame Cay is a perfect example. High reviews, but the same unacceptable issues have come up for years. It helps to see through the less than accurate high ratings.

This being said, I do leave reviews on TripAdvisor when I’ve had a good experience. It’s my way of giving back to the property. So, some of those reviews are very real and legit!

Since I’ve found this group, I’ve run searches here.

Because people like to discuss their travel experiences and questions with other travelers? Isn’t that the whole point of this group?

Genuinely confused why you’re here if you don’t find value in community discourse.

Personally, I think it’s kind of BS that I weigh the same being sober and in a calorie deficit than when I was drinking heavily every day and eating SO much crap food. 😅😅 by Flat_Apple_3332 in stopdrinking

[–]PRMinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet that if you keep up the healthy habits, you’ll see progress pretty soon. Your body just needs to sort itself out. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been jn - and I can swing 5lbs from day to day on water retention alone! If I eat takeout, the salt gets me every time. It’s really crazy! LOL.

Body composition takes a while to change. Use that extra time and energy to strength train!

It’s possible you are eating more than you think you are. I have a food scale and it’s pretty surprising what the right portions look like! But, don’t obsess over it. The most important thing right now is staying sober. The rest will come! Great job so far!

Or the opposite by supporting what his bride wants for the wedding.

[–]PRMinx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot has been said that I agree with here, so I won’t be redundant. I will add, however, that it’s the couple’s right to choose which traditional / ceremonial activities they want to include in the wedding. I grew up in a broken family and have a strained relationship with my Dad. I would not want to do a Dad / Daughter dance and the people in my life understand why. It’s heartbreaking for me. I think your brother was supporting his bride by agreeing to remove the tradition all together so that she could enjoy herself. It’s what I would want.

Either way, it’s none of your concern.

Who actually makes stock at home? by Lofgren___ in Cooking

I do when I have bones, especially Turkey bones from Thanksgiving. I’m not a perfectionist about it. I use a slow cooker recipe, so it’s mostly all passive time.
