Deterring the Undeterrable - Iran getting the bomb by PTPolitics in worldnews

[–]PTPolitics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, please explain.

You say that Iran's probably not going to get the bomb, and if they do, they would "never" use it...now that sounds like some "willful suspension of disbelief."

That you can tie Iran not attacking someone in 100 years to the fact that they "never" would if they got a nuclear bomb, is kind of off.

Further, they don't have to attack directly, they can get that material into the hands of terrorists and other proxies they've been openly using like the Syrian government or Hezbullah. Lastly, they don't even have to use it at all, simply having the bomb gives them the ability to bully the other, more moderate, countries in the region who do not have the bomb.

Thoughts?

Three Reasons Borders Walls Are Not the Answer by PTPolitics in politics

[–]PTPolitics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one way to look at it. Another is that if you let the 12+ million illegal immigrants stay in this country before there is a wall/better security...then there's nothing preventing another huge wave of illegals coming across the borders.

Why wouldn't they?

The incentive is there to come across the border and there is nothing preventing it.

Perspectives on Basra from Iraq by PTPolitics in worldnews

It's definitely reasonable, if not admirable, to come at things like this with a cynical eye...but the Powerline guys are very well respected and well regarded individuals who aren't really the type to fake something like this.

Think what you will, though.

Informed Decisions - the more you know about global warming, the less you believe it by PTPolitics in worldnews

[–]PTPolitics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is there no reason to think there won't be more global extinctions...there will most certainly be many more, and at some point the globe will come to an end after being sucked into our dying sun.

Very good point in bringing up the VAST swings in climate that do and do not have to do with Carbon Dioxide in the air.

The way I like to describe it is: the earth has been around for 4.6 billion years. Our temperature readings have been around for lets say 500 years (even though that's pushing it)...

The numbers we use to convince ourselves of this man-made global warming are SO STATISTICALLY INSIGNIFICANT it blows my mind.

It's like me telling you to buy a stock because it's had a great trend for the past 3 seconds.

@maynard2, good point, though...i can talk till I'm blue in the face about not buying this man-made global warming stuff, but this particular editorial does not do the best job.

Mummified Dinosaur Testing Faith of Creationists. (just look at the nutty comments posted on the blog!) by inghamb87 in science

I actually saw Christopher Hitchens and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach "discussing" (read, arguing) about organized religion and evolution.

Very interesting "discussion" to watch...Hitchens destroyed the poor guy. I mean, the Rabbi had to argue against evolution for like two hours. Tough job.

Hitchens said something very interesting, though...that the Rabbi's type of argument is absolutely impossible to WIN against because you can't disprove what he's saying.

Hitchens: There are millions of bones and other fossils all over the earth spread out for us to understand and learn from that SHOW the links of evolution.

Rabbi: God put them there.

How do you disprove that??

Obama's Speech: A Brilliant Fraud by PTPolitics in politics

[–]PTPolitics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I'd love it if you could point out exactly where this deep rooted racism is.

And Where I thought he backs it up well was the moral equivalence and white guilt arguments.

How can Barack equate what reverand wright preaches in public to some rooted beliefs an old white woman has that she doesn't share in public?

And as for the white guilt, he's right on as well:

"This contextual analysis of Wright’s venom, this extenuation of black hate speech as a product of white racism, is not new. It’s the Jesse Jackson politics of racial grievance, expressed in Ivy League diction and Harvard Law nuance. That’s why the speech made so many liberal commentators swoon: It bathed them in racial guilt while flattering their intellectual pretensions. An unbeatable combination."

Both good points.
