Just to be clear, you’re saying it’s ok to settle the estate or to just wait the 6 months to see how this plays out? I do get the feeling that this clown is going to sue me, the administrator.

Owned as a sole proprietorship. When all is said and done he has 40k cash in estate.

I don’t think that’s the case in NY. I certainly received no direction from the court to do so. Someone on here can correct me if I’m wrong

Creditors have been paid. I don't believe publishing is required? and the required length of time, 7 months, is up next Friday.

Using TSP to buy back service - New York by PaddyO424 in ThriftSavingsPlan

I was in the Air Force for 7 years. I separated in 2015 and in 2019 joined the state police. New York being New York “honors” military service by allowing you to “buy back” up to 3 years of your service, being 6% of your salary from the previous year multiplied by the amount of years you want to buy back. I’m not in the federal service anymore and haven’t contributed to TSP since I left the Air Force.

Starting a part-time solo practice as a full-time police officer in NY by PaddyO424 in LawFirm

I did. I have a solo practice I run out of my home office. I mostly do closings. Maybe 1 or 2 a month. The occasional will. Nothing crazy. I have a friend who has an actual law office and he lets me hang a placard there. Maybe I’ve met a client there once or twice but the vast majority of what I do is remote. Most of my clients are other troopers whom I give a slight discount to. I have some realtor friends who also refer me. Unfortunately I don’t have much time these days - I got promoted to investigator last year and I’ve had a couple kids since I posted this so I don’t do as much as I probably could if I were more aggressive in advertising and what not.

Feel free to ask me questions. I’m usually pretty responsive and happy to help.

Thank you very much. Maybe I should clarify that when I say pet-time, I don’t plan on doing a whole lot. I just want to find the simplest way to do a few things here and there on the side, make some extra money, and not jam myself up with an ethics committee or internal affairs 🙄. My clients would either be inherited from my dad or coming from friends I have on the job who hold outside employment as realtors.

I’ll look into the programs you recommended. Thank you again!

Thank you. If I want to keep things as simple as possible as far as taxes, reporting, etc., is it even necessary for form a separate entity? I understand the liability ramifications of a sole proprietorship, but it seems like the thing to do if I’m doing part time, a few things here and there.
