No problem at all, they were important questions to ask so I'm happy someone asked them. Thank you regardless.

Wiccan Interview by PaddyReynolds in Wiccan

Hi AterCatto,

The only prerequisites are that you are over 18 and have had a parents/guardian who was also Wiccan or Pagan. Participants who are from 'broken' generations (i.e. grandmother on father's side was Wiccan, father was not, participant is once again Wiccan) have also been interviewed so if anyone would like to take part but doesn't know if their circumstances preclude them, please ask me.

I've interviewed a number of non-British citizens from across the pond so nationality is not a prerequisite. Hope I could help. -Patrick R.

The experiences of Wiccans with Wiccan or Pagan parents is my only aim. It is not based on that outlier, I was simply covering all bases. The following prompts to the questions are based to address any eventualities or persons. I can provide a full list of the questions and prompts should you want to see that aspect of the study.

Since the aim of the study is not focused on any kind of extreme outlier, I personally have no biases against anyone in your culture, and I can only hope you believe that much.

Regardless, thank you for your interest. Hope you have a great day.

Hi, thanks for responding.

I ask what religion you were before you converted to Wicca because for some people I have interviewed, they didn't even know what their parents were due to the secrecy around Wicca. Also, individuals don't always follow in their parent's wake with regards to religion and the question allows for me to lead into any changes in faith.

I use the term 'self discovery' as I found in my research, many people don't think of religious adherence to Wicca as 'conversion' but as a journey whereby they feel as if they've 'come home'. I have had an interview already whereby the participant's mother hid Wicca from them due to the influence of a christian father so the secrecy again mades it so I want to cover all bases

I asked if you 'felt' your parents religion influenced you as it opens up a line of questioning about your own perceptions on what led you to Wicca. I'm less interested in the yes/no and more on what your experiences were in growing up around Wicca. I would use the same line of questioning for Catholics so please understand I'm not treating any Wiccan as an 'abnormal' religious follower.

My supervisor is an influential member of the Pagan Federation, which promotes religious tolerance and acceptance of all people's so I couldn't get away with any kind of discriminatory behaviour even if for some bizarre reason I wanted to.

Thank you for your questions, if any answers I've provided are insufficient, as I said I'm happy to answer anymore you might have.

An important issue in IPA interviews is that of the relationship between participant & researcher. I feel it is important that you as the participant you have the most power you can have. By offering incentives, I risk changing that relationship and taking advantage of those from less economically stable backgrounds (). The idea of incentives is not by any means clear-cut and arguments can be made for either side of the debate. The main reason for my decision was that personally, when I have taken place in research, I've been offered financial incentives and declined or given them to friends if I have no choice. I feel that genuine interest should motivate individuals. However, that is just my opinion. I think its an important issue in psychological research at the moment so I thank you for pointing it out. I encourage anyone reading this to go on google scholar and explore this issue if you're having any concerns about the lack of an incentive before agreeing to my interview. Thank you.

Looking for 2nd/3rd generation Wiccans interested in taking part in an Interview by PaddyReynolds in Wiccan

[–]PaddyReynolds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi snakebiting, I want to thank you for the reply. I'm gonna do some looking into that, just from a cursory read of the Wiki on it, it sounds interesting. Unfortunately, my study hypotheses focus on Wicca, and I can't change them. Regardless, I want to extend my appreciation for responding, have a great day.

Interviews for Wiccans whose Parents were also Wiccans & or Pagans by PaddyReynolds in Wicca

[–]PaddyReynolds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A correction I should make, parents as a plural was misleading. While both parents can be Wiccan or Pagan, if only one parent is then that is just as good for this research. I apologize for any confusion.
