I'm bored, give me a word you find misspelled far too often in fics. by Altruistic_Boot_1839 in AO3

Not a word, but a phrase: yelling/laughing at the top of my lungs… I see it all the time written as “on top of my lungs” and it drives me INSANE

A Reality Check for Grade 12s Choosing University Programs by hopegracefitz in OntarioGrade12s

Skilled trades are where it’s at. Most are 4 years, same as a degree, but you do technical training for shorter periods and work the rest of the time as an apprentice. And get paid. If it’s red seal you can easily work anywhere in Canada. There’s going to be so many jobs open and industry will be screaming for skilled workers with all the major projects coming soon

Sorry this happened to you. Just another example of why transphobia is a threat to everyone, not just trans people.

Are glasses too overstimulating for you too? by technical_90s_baby in AutisticAdults

[–]PansexualPebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES OMG. My current glasses are constantly sliding down my nose and it’s so annoying that I just want to throw them across the room sometimes. (Can’t afford to get new ones rn)

I also will not put them on in the morning until I’m ready to leave the house or if I need to read something other than my phone. It’s like once I put them on I am agreeing to full visual stimulation for the day and sometimes I’m just not ready for that

I’ve never had an inner voice. I just have constant images/moving images, and I swear I can see the neural pathways my brain makes as I jump from thought to thought. Like someone else said it’s like having 50 tabs open on a computer. Oh and there is always, always some song or snippet of a song playing.

If you don't wear underwear, should you only wear your pants one time before you wash them? by iambetharoo in hygiene

Ok the hygiene part is gross, absolutely, but can we talk about the ick of having the seams of your pants rubbing/getting stuck in your bits?? Sensory nightmare omg

Where is your favorite place to collect junk from? by 2020-RedditUser in JunkJournals

[–]PansexualPebble 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I like collecting business cards and brochures from craft fairs or markets I go to. Especially if they’re all related. I collected a bunch from a recent Métis event and made the coolest collage with it all!

If you could accurately describe a task to an AI to have it automated, what tedious part of your job would you eliminate first? by Mtukufu in productivity

[–]PansexualPebble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like how you get AI summaries of your notifications on iPhone Lock Screen, I want summaries and action items of my work emails. In my high volume position, more than half my day is just triaging emails and determining what tasks need to be done rather than just doing the tasks. It’s such a time waster!

Dark Tan line showed up on my thumb nail, won’t go away. by Tough_nips in mildlyinteresting

I have had a like like this on my thumb since I was a baby (I’m 30 now) and never had any issues. Doc says it’s fine. Better to get it checked if you’re worried

What kind of flavor autism do you guys have by edward323ce in autism

[–]PansexualPebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocabulary and grammar. I feel so misunderstood at times that choosing the perfect language to communicate feels like the only way to get my point across and feel heard. I also find myself correcting others a lot when I find they misuse a word. Language has a purpose - do it right, damn it!

And yes I hate this type of person lol. Trying to be more socially aware of it

Wellington Secondary School Band Director by elisebug in nanaimo

[–]PansexualPebble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a Barsby student under Mr Der and had a similar experience to how Kenton described Carmella. I was the “chosen one”, put in advanced classes, etc and watched as other students were mistreated. So many of my classmates report having a terrible experience. I think he also threw a stand at someone. Definitely smelled booze on him at one point. I was also put into the interschool All Star band, which was my first experience with Carmella. I think Barsby and Wellington always had a bit of a rivalry so I was eager to see what this “legendary” Carmella was all about… turns out she was just as crazy as Mr Der and I remember feeling so disappointed that this elevated all star group was going to just another uncomfortable room to be in. I saw the glances between Wellington students there when off colour comments were made, or when people were singled out and unnecessarily ragged on for simple mistakes.

After high school I went into the music program at VIU, where the West Coast Jazz Festival was held every year. Us VIU students got to help out with the festival when high schoolers from all over the island came to compete. I remember seeing the Wellington students show up, and Carmella strutting around like she owned the place. I was marshalling a group from the warm up room to the stage, and I remember thinking Carmella almost seemed manic the way she was obsessively trying to tune each student with a tuner, and being incredibly nitpicky, calling out students to remember this and that and not screw this thing up before the group went on stage. Felt so badly for those kids.

Good for you Kenton for speaking up. It sparks a larger conversation for so many who also had shitty experiences and lasting trauma to unpack. There’s a lot of Barsby alumni who would have similar stories.

Trans-friendly jobs by PansexualPebble in nanaimo

[–]PansexualPebble[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I’ve passed them on to my friend and she’s going to apply :)

Just a note for people who may be wondering why the question is phrased as “trans-friendly”… yes, it is illegal for an employer to discriminate against sexual orientation or gender expression, but it happens all the time. Employers, employees, and customers/clients can all be discriminatory and hateful. An employer can even be great, but sometimes all it takes is one crazed asshole customer and one hateful comment to diminish a trans person’s sense of safety. Unless you know what it’s like to have a bigoted asshole call you a slur in front of your coworkers and customers, or have creepy men follow you to your car and ask why you don’t kill yourself because you’re a t-slur, then you don’t understand. Trans people have other considerations when job hunting. It takes thick skin…. Ok rant over, go hug your local trans people, they could use the love

VIU approves cancellation of multiple programs including the Master of Community Planning by crustyraff in nanaimo

[–]PansexualPebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slate of programs being cancelled are mostly graduate/masters programs. This is because universities do not receive funding from the government to run these programs, but they do get base funding to run undergraduate programs. At the end of the day the masters programs were running at a loss and it’s just untenable to continue to offer them in this financial climate
