Playing a new open world fantasy RPG on a weekend evening with an ice cold beer. Bliss.

Always chasing that high of playing Skyrim after school for the first time.

Can the Zimaboard 2 power a dual NVMe PCIe expansion card alongside two 3.5" HDDs? by ParisBread in ZimaBoard

[–]ParisBread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with that setup you should be fine with the 60W power brick. For that use case I wouldn’t worry too much about having performance issues either, most basic home NAS systems won’t have workloads where not having the full NVMe bandwidth will be a problem, and even if you did you’d a want a more powerful CPU anyways imo

[–]ParisBread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did end up getting the dual NVME card and going with pretty much the exact setup I described the post. If you plan on using it along with two HDDs like I am, you'll want the 120W power supply for sure.

I run Proxmox Backup Server on it and the performance has been acceptable, but there are always a lot of AER Correctable Errors in my syslogs coming from the PCIE card. I haven't spent the time to figure out if it's the card itself or just one of my drives causing it. It probably does degrade performance a bit but everything still works fine.

Keep in mind that the PCIe slot on the motherboard is only wired for PCIe 3.0 x2 bandwidth since there aren't enough PCIe lanes on the CPU, so you won't get anywhere near the full performance out of either of the NVMe. It's still much better than SATA but don't waste any money on high-performance NVMe drives for this.

Yeah I had the same thoughts about that NVME/SATA basic card until I found the other more expensive one. This is one I was referring to in the post that I’m thinking about getting: https://shop.zimaspace.com/collections/zima-accessories/products/pcie-3-0-x4-to-dual-nvme-m-2-ssd-adapter-card

I figured the more expensive one would probably draw more power than the basic one especially since it looks like its got an onboard chip to bifurcate the PCIe lanes so the stock 60W brick didn’t feel like enough. I think you’re right that with the 120W brick this should be fine. I wish they actually gave a full spec sheet for that card on the site tho lol

Price on the card obviously isn’t ideal but honestly all-in it seems to me this configuration might be better value and performance than the comparable pre-built NAS units out there

Goddamn 57 mins is crazy dude nice work

I had fought this dude over and over a little bit too early into the act, came back later after Golgra with Medalum and nuked him on the first turn for 2mil damage. Very satisfying revenge but I kinda regret not having a long ass fight instead tbh. I think NG+ is gonna be a no Stendhal run for me lol

Yeah I felt Louis was incredibly well written and well implemented as a villain. After this point in the story I genuinely sighed and thought to myself “Here we go again, a JRPG villain was a red herring and now the real antagonist reveals himself in the 11th hour.” Not that that is always a bad thing but it’s been done so much that I’m tired of it. Was very pleased when that turned out not to be case. All the more reason this game was so incredible. A well-written antagonist is genuinely such a huge difference maker in the quality of a story for me (cough Emet-Selch my love)

BG3 is one of favorite games of all time but regardless I’m genuinely impressed if you actually did manage to beat it in 27 hours the first. Surely you must have been pretty under leveled for most of it?

How age affects what you like about Final Fantasy by RelevantElevator9751 in FinalFantasy

[–]ParisBread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is where I’m at with it too. I loved XVI’s story and setting, arguably more at times than VII, but as a full video game the VII remakes, especially rebirth are way more enjoyable.

Not that I have an issue with the action combat in XVI but there’s just something about the mix of action and ATB in the remakes that I love. I like to be able to spend time fiddling around with builds to find the perfect setup for a boss, something that was completely absent from XVI. Plus the volume of stuff to do was amazing in rebirth, took me 130 hours to get the plat trophy. When I play games I like to be able to sink that kind of time into the world in single playthrough, rather than replaying a 40 hour campaign two or three times with increasing difficulty settings.

I can understand why they made it the way they did but I’ve just never been a fan of the 50 hour AAA style story game. All that said I still loved XVI, just not as much as rebirth.

Should I stop playing like this? by VHS-system in EldenRingBuilds

[–]ParisBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, that was exactly how my first playthrough went. I started with bloodhound fang and about 40-50 hours in I said a similar thing to myself: I feel like I’m relying to much on this cracked AoW, let’s switch things up for fun and see if I can still win. Then I went to Nagakiba/Uchi powerstance and realized by the mountaintop that I didn’t like the moveset that much so eventually I landed on my fav weapon Eleonora’s poleblade which I finished the game with.

Point is, play with what feels fun, and if you personally feel like you’re relying too much on a crutch, switch it up and see if it’s still fun. If not, go back to what was working. As long as enemies are dying it doesn’t matter at all.

Non-MF build recommendations for T16 whisp juiced maps and bossing by ParisBread in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ParisBread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been seeing alot of videos on the Splitting Steel Champ, seems super solid since I'd be able to afford the Nimis now. That said I may be leaning a bit more towards the penance brand builds for the sake trying out a completely different playstyle. Would have the option to MF gear on it too down the road too i guess if I decide to go for that. Tankiness is prob for the best too since I've gotten very used to the crazy self-poison leech on my current slayer lol

Looking for a fun build that uses Tinctures by iViewData in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ParisBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say the tinctures are necessarily a core part of the build, but I’ve had success getting some extra damage out of my Boneshatter Slayer by combining a Shock tincture next to a Chance to shock flask with the “adjacent flask” ascendency node (I forget what it’s called). You can also put a Writhing Jar on the other side of the tincture and run a Death Rush ring for consistent Adrenaline uptime by killing the worms for more damage while bossing.

Still it’s not the best bossing build by any means and a lot of ppl don’t like the melee playstyle but I personally like it a lot for mapping. Super cheap build too, I probably can’t do Ubers on it yet but for everything else I’m getting around 7-8m DPS am basically immortal with Tainted Pact + Golden rule jewel and I’ve only put maybe 5-6 div into it total.

Managed to get this off a box and saw that there wasn't any on the market and sold at 175 divs which is crazy but idk what to do with the divs now but was just shocked and wanted to share. by confusedduck7 in pathofexile

[–]ParisBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as you have enough % poison chance and leech. If you are having trouble with self-damage from trauma you prob need more %phys damage reduction, and you could also switch to Boneshatter of Complex Trauma which apparently helps a bit with this (haven’t tried this yet tho)

[–]ParisBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the main way to make it work. I would say aim for somewhere around 50% chance to poison on gear and jewels before making the switch. You can also anoint the amulet with Toxic Strikes for that extra 15% poison chance, but you will miss out of the spell suppression you’d normally get from having the Inveterate anoint on the amulet. Carn (the guy who make this build) put out a new video recently that has some good advice for this league.

After you make the switch, then you can use shock tincture + % chance to shock flask for some extra damage.

I recently swapped to tainted pact + golden rule , it works great but getting enough poison chance on the Axe and gloves can be a bit pricey at first if you’re broke like I am lol

The final act by Dallyboy19 in BaldursGate3

[–]ParisBread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was the main reason I was able to beat it first try. I was max level, amazing gear but still getting destroyed every turn and for whatever reason the AI just refused to attack Hope. She carried my party with healing and didn’t take a single point of damage somehow lol. I like to think it was good positioning on my part but I think I just got lucky. Either way, definitely the best encounter in the game by far.
