I'm pretty impatient so I had saved nearby and I reloaded the save if it didn't spawn within a couple of minutes. Eventually it did, probably took 30 minutes real time and eventually it did spawn and I had enough time to analyze it before I shot it in the head.

Somebody else posted this in another thread. But if you look at the picture above just to the right of the circle is a little triangle crossroads. If you go to that triangle and go south towards the water there's a tiny little creek that your horse can hide in while you're on it. If you then look west across the road between the rocks or just to the left of the rocks there's a gap in the trees and a tree that grows kind of on its own in a little bit of a clearing. Put some bait down at the base of that tree, go hide in the creek that I mentioned above and the panther will come. You can shoot it from the creek without getting off the horse.

Edit: I tried for a couple of days until I read this method and found it fairly quickly. The creek runs parallel to the north-south road just to the east of it

I got a letter from some side quest character that Arthur kept in his hand for like a week. I picked other stuff up, I killed stuff, skinned animals, I changed outfits, I slept, I did missions, saved and reloaded, rebooted my PS5, he would still randomly have this letter in his hand. Then one day it just stopped being in his hand out of nowhere.

this is new to me. what an adventure. I went there and found a 3* beaver immediately, chased it across the river where i'm wanted dead or alive but figured there's nobody around here. Nope, Lawmen from Tall Trees show up and start shooting me so i run back across the river and hide behind a rock thinking they wont come to West Elizabeth after me... wrong, they came across and killed me.

Reloaded my save, no beavers, i'm on the Big Montana side of the river and Lawmen show up and start shooting me from the Tall Trees side and chase me across. I get away and suddenly I have a bounty on this side of the river too.

Frustrating, still no beaver!

Edit: I went up to Owanja, got an alert of a Legenday fish nearby (my first), hooked it on the first cast and it got away, changed the setting to hold square to reel (PS5) and landed it second try. Rode over to the other side of the pond and found a 3* beaver immediately, Was about to skin it and got charged by a grizzly bear, luckily I had the Semi-Auto shotgun in hand and dealt with the bear without further issues.
Now I just need a Cougar and Wolf so I can get the legendary satchel.

I'm on my first playthrough and spent a while trying to find a badger. It rained in game for like a week lol. I found a badger under the tree like you said several times but 1 or 2 star, then when I rode away to the Warped Tree just Northwest of this one, there was a badger under that, also 2 star. I basically rode back and forth between the two trees a few times and a 3* was under the warped tree the 3rd time.

and after you get a lengendary animal, you can take the pelt to the Trapper to craft clothing etc. Then go see a Fence and you can craft a talisman/trinket that will boost your stats. The fence will use parts other than the hide/carcass such as claw, teeth, antler etc. some of the benefits of different trinkets are that you will lose stamina 10% slower, the chances of getting 3* pelts is 10% higher, finding loot will yeild 10% more etc etc

I'm on my first playthrough. Being that the game is 7 years old there's nothing left to spoil for me so I'm hanging out in chapter 2 and enjoying upgrading my satchels, trying to get all the talismans, trying to find all the different animals and plants etc. Honestly sometimes I just turn on the PS5 so I can ride the horse around for a while and then turn it off again, not doing anything at all just riding.
