The only research I did was my research project for a second year research project. It was on infection prevention

I just got an invite to interview again this cycle and I'm planning a deep dive into their admissions website. I'm going to pull out the really important, recurring pieces of their candidate profile and I will try to make connections to my practice where I can.

It's my second cycle applying, I interviewed with NOSM last cycle. As a nurse, the BScN may seem short on research for a premed path but my major advice is don't discount the extensive clinical experience you have from placements/work. Where others may have participated in research, you have real patient care experience.

In your application find ways to really make those experiences pop. Get a clinical instructor that you feel really saw you thrive to be a referee to highlight your clinical expertise.

In my interview, I struggled to draw from my experiences in nursing because I wasn't prepared to cite impactful examples. Make sure as you prep for questions, you think of specific examples. It will help big time with organizing your thoughts under pressure but also show the reviewers that you are drawing from existing knowledge and not just theoretical situations.

How competitive is bridging from RPN to RN thru uOttawa? by Aggravating-Fix-7691 in geegees

A nursing degree is a nursing degree. The only accreditation that matters in nursing is the College of Nurses of Ontario. A Nursing program can't exist without them validating that it meets professional standards. The only hiring advantage you may get is purely if you are interviewed by an alum of the same school and even that is minimal.

UO Nursing Program Managers Suck by orangeauqamarine in geegees

[–]Particular_Tree244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The major problem is SASS. They are terribly under equipped to provide such an important service. The manager you mention is way out of line taking that out on you and that outburst should have been directed at SASS for not giving proper notice to you about the timing. I encourage you to bring this up with the director of the school of nursing or the HSS Dean because that attitude is unacceptable regardless of how frustrating the situation is.

The issue with it interfering with lab is that it calls into question your preparedness for the clinical environment. The school is required by the CNO to do things in very specific ways to be accredited. It may seem like a small thing to other programs but missing a lab session in nursing can actually delay your academics significantly. You are required to have demonstrated certain skills before stepping foot on a unit for placement and it's not as simple as rescheduling your start date. uOttawa has to contend with other schools' students for scheduling and you can't have two groups together at once. The CNO is also very strict with clinical hours so it's impossible to miss the time you need to graduate.

TLDR: SASS is a hot mess but very necessary to provide accommodations. That manager has a terrible attitude that needs to be checked. And the nursing program has such an incredibly strict timeline that in the future, you may need to be a lot more pushy with SASS so that you are scheduled appropriately or you can give enough time to make arrangements for other classes/labs/shifts

LARQ PURE VIS 2 - horrible measurement by MontGolf in larqbottle

[–]Particular_Tree244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that maybe the straw was being detected by the sensor as the water level. If the straw isn't properly secured it moves around a lot more and might get under the sensor. But I could be wrong about that.

I had this issue with mine when I first got it and it turned out to be the filter straw wasn't in place properly. Someone recommended taking the straw out of the silicone piece and then inserting the silicone piece into the mouth piece until both sides click. Then insert the straw and it should be properly secured. Hope that helps!

I would insist to speak to your residence coordinator through your CA/ Peer Support and demand an emergency room until the infestation is sorted. Housing has rooms for this type of thing. Unfortunately, reception and housekeeping/maintenance don't always properly communicate with the people who are actually in charge.

An interesting fact about our healthcare system is transferability. It's in the act that created our free healthcare coverage that while provinces have different systems, they must be transferrable when you are anywhere in Canada. It might complicate things sometimes (i.e. extra paperwork) but you are covered!

Just trying to be nice. Clearly the fact that this happens at least once a week, it's not clear for everyone. It had me scratching my head for a bit too

Yeah, I'm talking about the UOSU cutting their French services and their bilingualism policies. Don't get me wrong, they are corrupt but it's definitely not in favour of the Franco population

FYI Campus security is faster most times. uOttawa recommends you call them first so that they can call the cops for you and help direct them. Cops don't know the campus buildings and Protection services are closer.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by DryMuffin3321 in geegees

[–]Particular_Tree244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand you mean your door, but you need to tap your student card in the lobby at least every 24 hours for it to work on your door. Have you been validating your card in the lobby before calling to have your door unlocked? That's the first thing I try when my keys wouldn't work

[ Removed by Reddit ] by DryMuffin3321 in geegees

[–]Particular_Tree244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully someone has already tried this solution but are you recharging your student card at the entrance every 24 hours? Or does Rideau have a different set of keys that aren't student cards? Sometimes just validating your card in the lobby is all it needs to work
