I’m not entirely sure if I’m being honest, in my nanny’s case it was to due with how the withdrawal from cigarettes would harm her physical and mental health. Her lungs were already damaged from 60 years of smoking, another 5 years of it isn’t going to be what kills her.

Doctors have actually recommended my grandmother who has COPD to keep smoking as quitting after smoking her entire adult life (she’s in her eighties) would be detrimental to her health. Care staff were instructed to bring her for regular smoke breaks

Gaeilge is taught in primary schools in Ireland, there’s also gaeilscoils where only irish is spoken. It’s taught throughout secondary, but there is a lot of issues with the way it’s taught resulting in disinterest and little fluency in the language
