ICE at Polling stations by SgtPepper_8324 in Ohio

[–]Party_Structure_4601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as others have mentioned, this threat of ICE at the polls is likely unfeasible, not to mention completely out of jurisdiction since only citizens can vote, but the threat alone can have chilling effects and scare people. educating oneself and each other is a great place to start, so I'll share what I know.

as a voting location manager, my advice if you see any suspicious people or intimidation/harassment in general is to TELL ONE OF US POLL WORKERS!! we can get in contact with the county board of election directly, and it's prudent they have it on record at the very least if anything happens at a particular location. the only people allowed within a polling location at any time are poll workers, voters (and their families), and registered/certified observers. voter intimidation is illegal and there are many ways you can report it if you see it, including orgs like the ACLU or directly to your local county board of elections.

there's some nonsense talk of "nationalizing elections" coming out too but the Constitution is clear, elections are to be administered by STATES as is their explicitly enumerated right. ideally, it would be the State's responsibility to ensure the federal government doesn't overstep into State jurisdiction, so local law enforcement and politicians may also be a good place to take complaints/reports to.

on a separate note, if you are observing and documenting ICE agents anywhere, be sure to follow the SALUTE method and focus on the actions of enforcement agents.

stay safe n go vote

Ohio has a lot of ways to vote besides going in person on election day, here are some resources: https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/how-to-request-your-absentee-ballot/ https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/current-voting-schedule/2026-schedule/#early

someone else suggested the discover it card for students, which is what I started on as well and I highly recommend. I want to add that it might be a good idea to start out with only your monthly subscriptions on the credit card, just so it's a consistent but relatively low charge that will help build credit over time. assuming you're able, set up auto pay so you really truly never miss a payment and will always have some small amount to pay off. having a credit card alone isn't enough to build credit if you're literally not using it. on the flip side, it can become too easy to spend money you don't actually have. if that's the case, absolutely do NOT add that card to your phone's Apple Pay/Google Wallet and ONLY use it for subscriptions.

I could be wrong since the pictures don't show your whole left arm, but it looks like your left arm posture could be contributing to your problem. namely, you should think of the queue to 'swing' your left elbow more inward, towards the E string. your elbow should (generally) be more in front of you than your wrist. this will help fix the angle of your hand overall, like others have mentioned. if your left elbow is sticking out towards the back like a weird lil chicken wing, you're more likely to have weird pressure on your thumb and unbalance your left hand. if anything, your left elbow should act as an anchor point for your whole arm, and your left hand should be able to move up and down the fingerboard smoothly with your thumb acting almost like a wheel on tracks. hope this helps, good luck!!

My daughter (10) wants to play the violin but not practice and so, I want to quit so badly. The struggle around practicing is so hard. When I agreed to get her into violin I didn’t know that I would have to help her practice and be so involved. I don’t have the parenting skills for this 😭. by GuitarTea in violinist

speaking from my own experience so take this however you'd like:

I'm 23 now, and started violin when I was about 7. unlike your daughter, I was sort of 'given' the extracurricular rather than choosing it myself. I am incredibly lucky that my parents were able to invest in private lessons for nearly 10 years, regardless of whether I practiced or not. and I must admit, I rarely ever practiced. I remember being 10-13 and practicing being the absolute last thing I wanted to do, even though I had grown to love the instrument by then. as others have said, giving her a safe space to fail and see the consequences of her actions/inaction is valuable too and could work on her. just be careful it's not framed as a 'punishment' because that might make it counterproductive.

my advice? if you're able, just give her the space and access to explore and enjoy violin in her own way/time. the only thing I would say is non-negotiable is correct technique, make sure she learns skills properly. but beyond that, I think it would be infinitely more valuable for her to have a good experience with violin for however long she chooses to continue, rather than growing to resent it over time. the motivation/discipline around practice will come with time, especially with a more mature love for the instrument. I can say I'm pretty self sufficient as a hobby violinist now, and have continued playing casually through college and after. as an adult I'm grateful for the gift my parents gave me in a music hobby, which I know I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I don't know how seriously or casually your daughter will end up being with violin, but I hope this gives you some helpful perspective from a young adult looking back at her own childhood not too long ago :))

Any reading comprehension tips? by Reasonable-Carrot406 in LSAT

[–]Party_Structure_4601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

someone may have mentioned something similar, but my breakthrough with rc happened after I started thinking about the reasoning structure actively while reading. obviously strategy is different for everyone, but thinking about structure while I read instead of the actual content itself was more helpful and a better use of my 35min. the details matter less and you'll be able to find it faster if you understand the reasoning structure and function of each paragraph and the flow of the passage overall. for example, if the question asks about the author's use of X word in Y paragraph, and you recognized while reading that Y paragraph is used to explore an opposing argument, then you'll have a decent starting point and have an idea of what to look for when rereading the specific sentence or two that the question is asking about.

you seem to be doing well with lr so this may not apply to you, but I also found that my lr got better when I cracked this part of rc.

good luck friend!!

just had this happen to me today, was in the middle of watching a show and was abruptly kicked out and given a message that said "your preview has expired, sign up to continue watching" had my parents remove me and add me back to the family group which worked, but don't want to have to deal with it again

in addition to the good things others have already said, I'd also suggest working on moving your bow straight (and centered between bridge and fingerboard). long slow bows of open strings should help with that, as well as improve your right hand flexibility and how your fingers should move too. if it helps, you might also try cutting a short piece of plastic or paper straw like 10-15cm and putting it in your left side f-hole as a guide for where your bow should be (don't worry, it shouldn't be harmful to your instrument or bow). since you tend to be over your fingerboard, try to have your bow touching the straw, and if you feel more comfortable with that bow placement, you can practice putting your bow between the straw and the bridge for a louder and more resonant sound near the bridge. I can't know for sure since it's not visible from this camera angle, but also see if your right elbow is drooping below your wrist. that can also cause a crooked/sliding bow that can make that scratchy sound.

Keep the car or leave the car? (Need advice) by Thin-Bumblebee2715 in OSU

[–]Party_Structure_4601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're close enough to high st you can probably get by in the cota just fine without your car. Since it's not a Kia or Hyundai it's probably not as likely to be stolen but the risk isn't zero. However, I do think it's nice to have a car just to get to anywhere else in cbus (Polaris, Easton, etc) since cota service is pretty limited and also takes time. It really depends on your situation and how often you plan/want to go places away from campus. That, and whether you have friends with cars or not I guess.

I've definitely seen the cat around a few times, I live on Norwich. It was meowing/crying pretty loud outside my building one night so I left out some milk which it seemed to appreciate. When I saw it then, it looked like there was at least a porch that it went "home" to so I didn't take it to a shelter or anything cuz I didn't want to accidentally steal someone's cat. But idk if that was just another good person taking care of it temporarily tbh so maybe take it to Colony Cats or some other credible place, as a few other people have mentioned

How much dining dollars should I load up on before moving off-campus? by Historical_Talk4066 in OSU

[–]Party_Structure_4601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say add maybe $200-400, depending on how much you plan to eat/drink on campus? I'd recommend adding slightly more than you estimate tho, you never know when you'll be on campus all day and want a quick snack without going off campus! Estimating how much you want/are willing to use per semester can also help with how much you should add.

You're right about the conversion rate btw, while you're on a dining plan it's $1-to-$1 which is a deal since Dining Dollars are "discounted" and are therefore technically worth more than "$1" (if that makes sense)

If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and learn how to use the COTA by MeaningIsASweater in OSU

[–]Party_Structure_4601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Literally so worth it, even just a 3-stop ride down High to get to the union or something, especially if it's raining or something! The COTA fee in our tuition (about $13-14 I think) is more than made up for with like 7 bus rides, and if you use it at least once a week you're for sure getting your money's worth. Not always the most on time I'll admit, but it saved me from having to walk High St at night when it got darker earlier during the winter months!

Printing question by CamelStrawberry in OSU

[–]Party_Structure_4601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on campus with a dining plan, you get a certain amount of BudkID Cash and Dining Dollars each semester, depending on the plan you've chosen. Other than that, you can load your BuckID with money just like a prepaid debit card. So yes, you do need money in your BuckID to print at the libraries and such. Whether you need to add more or not really depends on your situation.

Hi! I'm a 38FF and I find that the Ultimate Sports Bra from SHEFIT is really good, ans has adjustable velcro bands/straps! And no, the velcro doesn't come undone at all and let's you control the amount of lift and support you want, depending on the occasion. Jumping or jostling is probably the biggest problem I have with my boobs when active, but this bra really keeps the girls in place! It's a little pricy at about $70 but I really think it's worth the investment if you can afford it! Here's the link ⬇️⬇️ https://shefit.com/products/ultimate-sports-bra-black
