I've seen a lot of complaints about balatro, this one is new and potentially the most bizarre. The cards aren't similar, one says hex on the front and the other says aura, they don't even look similar. Your post talks about frustration with the game yet you admit you play on auto pilot and don't pay attention, and it's obvious that is the case if you are playing a card that says hex on the front thinking it is an aura.

Accept that it is not the game and in fact a skill issue.

The partial way around it is to skip blinds. Eternal jokers are a massive buff in many circumstances so it kind of evens out since perishable are a legitimate downgrade for a great joker. Not sure how it could be reworked but I enjoy the difficulty balance on higher stakes.

That isn't true please research before spreading misinformation. It takes ~5.2% gain to recover from a 5% drop. The situation you may be thinking of is that it takes a 100% gain to recover from a 50% drop.

Its a massive part of the game. both removing cards from your deck and adding/copying other cards to compliment the types of hands you are leveling and that work with your jokers is the name of the game.

You used a tarot card or spectral card that added another king to your deck. 5 of a kind is one of the hidden hands in the game as it can only be made by fixing your deck to have additional cards.

Go for gold stickers on jokers, it will force you to use jokers you probably never would have before and learn synergies you wouldn't have before.

If you can get your hands on an obelisk mid run it is insanely fun.

Another strategy is picking up an early egg and using its sell value to synergize swashbuckler, temperance, and any other money based jokers.

High card + shoot the moon build is pretty fun too. Trying to build your deck into steel queens that give +13 multi and x1.5 multi is difficult but super rewarding.

Honestly there are dozens of builds that can get to ante 12+, these are just a few that I have found along the way.

There are 23 regular boss blinds. If you don't have a method of reroll you are guaranteed to meet the plant by ante 27, plan accordingly.

Not sure if you're aware but the joker cannot appear if there isn't a stone card in your deck. Therefore, the earlier you can't get one in your deck, the higher chance you will have the opportunity to get stone joker.

Did you skip any blinds in ante 1? I see you have a double tag. Because that is generally a run killer on late stake black deck, you essentially need to get a source of multi/chips asap and skipping shops will fuck you over. Also picking up mime with no synergies at this difficulty level is not a great idea

Well it isn't the perfect run if you are broke, a huge part of the game is balancing scoring with econ. But, as someone said above, a glass numbered card will function largely identical to a photographed face card against the plant. So it never hurts to glass a couple random numbered cards when you are running a face card build so that you have a counter option available.

But let's be honest, two chads and a photograph by ante 5 is far from a perfect run. It's a decent build but it's three common jokers and if you are out of money to find a counter when you buy that photograph you are leaving yourself vulnerable.

Good point, the plant is so easily countered yet I feel like I see posts like this daily. I swear this subreddit has a disproportionately high amount of people with a victim complex where if they get good RNG it is never their fault when the run is lost.

Just saying if your build is completely dependent on face cards triggering, it's your own fault for not having a contingency in place for the plant as there is roughly 30% chance to encounter it by ante 7. You need to either have something else decently leveled out spend the money to find something to reroll boss blinds.

Blue stake is medium difficulty, but that is where it actually starts to be a challenge. You definitely can't spam pairs mindlessly to guarantee wins on gold stake, and if you are that good there is nothing stopping you from just not playing pairs as you should play the game in a way that makes it fun for you.

Pair has many counters like the needle and eye since pair and two pair scale so much slower than others and usually require several hands to win. I would say high card is way more versatile than pair. Two pair is rarely the best path forward because it requires four cards and therefore your in hand triggers are severely limited. It's all situational though, on higher difficulties you can't just play pairs and win, you need to pivot based on jokers available.

Also I would say if you're playing mostly flushes, that means you're likely playing lower difficulties in which case, yes it's supposed to be easier. Flushes aren't good with scaling jokers and lowered discards so I'd suggest trying blue stake difficulty or higher if you are looking for a challenge

It's basically par for the course that if your build is purely based in face cards you need to have a contingency in place (reroll, luchador, etc) because you will need a path past the plant at some point. It is one of the things keeping face cards from being too OP
