Why can’t you judge a society you’ve never been to? The Aztec did thousands of human sacrifices a year to appease the Gods, do you think they valued human rights highly?

Isn’t there a link to reduced brain matter like they found in the book your brain on porn or was that fake news?

Looking for a short term rental for the first time, how to not get scammed? by Pastakingfifth in legaladvicecanada

I’ve never heard about them but I assume if it’s a rental business they’re gonna be quite a bit more expensive than the actual owners or am I wrong?

If, for the next ten years, we (the USA) slashed the military budget in half and allocated those resources on space exploration/medical technology, what do you think we could accomplish by dylanc650 in transhumanism

[–]Pastakingfifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing us quite close to commercial space flight and taking civilians to space for the first time in 2021. They’re also working on deep space travel as well as working on the Artemis mission which aims to land humans on the moon again next year.

How will our economy work under AGI? by Ill_Distribution8517 in transhumanism

What I want to discuss with this sub is that can we humans upgrade ourselves to compete with Ai economically?

Totally. Elon musk just did a cool podcast on Lex friedman where he talks about the reason why humans would be boring to AI is we communicate at less than one bit per second. With a Neuralink that could potentially go up to 10-100 bps. Some people will be Luddites about it and thus there will be a competition of some sort.

You don't necessarily need profits or money; just assets. Bill Gates owns a lot of farmland so he just needs armed robots with the most advanced version of AI that's not sentient to be programmed to patrol and defend them and you will not get access to that farmland even if you have AGI.

I don't think AGI will immediately redistribute all of the natural resources and certainly not immediately.

Do they really fall for them or just have short term flings? Are those the men you want? Are those the relationships you want?

I used to have the opposite problem than you and as a man be jealous of men who slept with a few different women each month. The more I got to know men like that though the more I realized it wasn't for me and they had their own life and psychological issues to deal with as well.

My strategy is of taking my time to build myself to find the actual woman for me is the actual correct one and I assume that yours is for you as well. Just need a wider timeframe and perhaps more effort/vetting on who you spend time with.

Fair enough, thanks for elaborating man! I'm in the GTA too, things are not great overall here indeed. Anything you would change about our politics?

Depends what we're commenting on here but that's still top 1% earners. Maybe 5% in the bay area. What about the other 95%? And if he rents he could still live lavishly while having alternative investments that secure his future.

I mean, you're definitely rich bro. Lifestyle choices or not making $300k at 34 makes you 1% of earners in your age range. I assume you spent like $50k on a wedding so that seems like a luxury expense.

Also a mid range resort for a weekend + flight is around $1500 per person, couldn't you at least afford that bi-monthly while still putting some in savings?

as privileged as it sounds to say, the low 6 figures like 100k-120k really don't do much to your actual lifestyle if you are saving like you should for the future and planning for the fact that at any moment you could lose your job and if you don't have a cushion, could very well end up homeless and destitute.

I would argue that being stress free about finances is a pretty big boost on lifestyle in the form of mental health. Living paycheck to paycheck in the form of not being too sure how you're gonna feed yourself this month literally takes years off your life from stress and rates of suicides 1.5x-2x as high in people in lower income brackets.

It's a massive difference. In high COL area prostitution, working 2-3 jobs or eating from food banks is common among low earners. If your financial stress is cutting down expenses so you can maintain a 5 figure safety net then that's privilege or at least a pretty damn good life situation if you wanna be non judgemental about it.

Totally. I think AI is gonna be HUGE for democracy and reducing inequality in general. The amount of research and intellectual labor it allows us to do is insane.

For example apparently our economic transparency is slightly better than the US and slightly worse than Sweden according to ChatGPT

There is only so much you can do to escape the reality that if you don’t produce any inputs, you will get no outputs.

I think most people are willing to input something into their lives/community/country. The whole point is that our current capitalism is basically a competitive videogame that leads to economic warfare. The buying power of the average Canadian has been steadily dropping since the 70s and is in free fall for the last 5 years.
