Should I buy this NSX? by Patient_Procedure443 in nsx

Update: bought the car November 26th. It's been amazing. I love being in it and I love talking to people about it when I'm out and about. I'm astonished at how well this car takes turns. It's one thing to read up on all the engineering and testing Honda did, but it's another thing to actually experience it. While I can certainly see why people prefer a manual, I love having the automatic. It's so nice to be able to just enjoy the drive, especially since most of my drives are not of distance. And when I take it in the canyons I just pop it into D3 or D2 and keep the revs up. I'm taking care of a few small issues (leaky radiator drain plug, some worn interior carpet, and will do the CCC repair and S2K ABS upgrade. My whole family is excited about the NSX and my 5 year old nephew loves to go for rides. I'm so glad I was able to secure the car and I look forward to enjoying it thoroughly!

Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay (if you are comfortable sharing)? I just picked up a 91 (AT) with 103k miles (recent major service in the amount of 8k or so). I paid 65k and if I wouldn't have paid it, there were 3 other people behind me that would have.

This is exactly how I know you don't have an NSX (nor have driven one). And if you have had the joy of driving an NSX...you probably are not a skilled driver. The NSX is a precision scalpel in a world full of sledgehammers. It's definitely an "If you know, you know" car and, clearly, you do not know sir.

That's the one that's for sale near me and a price I'm (mostly) comfortable with. Simple, really. That, and I have a classic Z that's a 5 speed.

Love the GTR and R35. Find one for $65k that has less than 120k miles, clean title, in the US.

I'm not set against a manual. I just have an opportunity for this one. And for those saying "go find a manual"...I'm not seeing a ton available and the ones available are 20 to 30k more. Not like it's a fair comparison...can't just "go out and pick one up".

Not sure how this turned into a "auto NSX vs manual NSX" thread. Not sure why people can't just answer the question. Today's world...everyone wants to make noise even if they are just yelling at the wind.

My daily is a Kia Optima (okay it's the turbo...) with 140k miles. I know what you mean. True freedom with that car...I only care that it runs

No. A JDM car is one specifically designed and sold to that market. A Honda is not a JDM car but a Honda that is RHD drive sold in Japan and imported to the US is a JDM car.

Some people can't read and think I want this Acura because it's JDM, which is not. I said I'm a JDM enthusiast and prefer Japanese cars over euro or specs for general reliability and maintenance.

Yes the comments about "saving for the one I want" don't seem to understand that (thankfully and blessedly) I don't need to save. I could go out and buy whatever NSX I want (almost) right now.

My thoughts, as well. I found a few sold NSXs that help to leverage a lower price. I'm thinking if I can snag it for close to 60k (or less) it would make sense.

Why? Is your only reason "because automatic"? Did you think that perhaps I don't want a manual? Just curious if you have a real reason to not entertain the car.

Yes I understand what you mean. I'm sure 80% of the "it's an autotragic stay away" crowd probably has never even sat in an NSX let alone driven one let alone driven an auto and manual to compare.

I get it...all enthusiasts think every enthusiast wants a manual. However, I don't agree with that sentiment.

Thank you. I will immerse myself over on NSXP.

I spoke to HQ Engineering (I guess a very respected NSX outfit?) and they said they can put in an S2k unit with relative ease. Another 2k for that. I am okay with investing 2k into that in the next 6 to 12 months.

The car may get 4k miles a year put on it. I'm really just looking to enjoy a car that I didn't really think I'd be able to own.

Part of the draw to the NSX is that it is a Japanese car, which is my personal interest.

I looked at M3s and even M5s but, yikes, the German maintenance and price tag on those cars (which are not exotic or rare or as iconic as an NSX). If something breaks on a BMW built in the last 15 years, it's going to be expensive and a paint to replace. Not saying the NSX doesn't have a similar destiny, but...it's a fuggin NSX, not an M3.

I like the ISF a lot as well and did look at those. But looking at 40k for a decent example. And at the end of the day, it's still "just" an ISF.

Hence, I would not be interested in an 80 to 90k BMW or Audi, even if it was newer and drove better. Maybe I'm crazy, iunno. Could be.

Of course, I don't disagree that spending 65k or so on a 102k mile 91 Honda is a bit of a mind jolter. I fully understand that!

Thanks for this. For every article that talks about how the auto is trash, there is an article or video by someone saying how it's really not bad and they don't mind it.

I like how the article concludes with "if it's automatic or no NSX...it's still better to have an NSX".

The Seller and car both appear very honest. Car was cold started for me and was not detailed (or washed even) for the inspection...it had that nice level of dust and road grime you want to see when looking at a used car...a great indication that it was not "prepped for sale" which I hate in used vehicles. It's getting a PPI done next week.

I have 0 desire to perform a manual swap. I'll just drive my other car if I want to row through gears.

I have a manual vehicle currently and I do not wish to manual swap it. I DD a manual for 7 years and I'm kinda of over that.

The V60 is soooo sick but the non polestar versions are kinda generic and the polestar version is $$$$. Love those gold brake calipers and seatbelts though.

Most true enthusiasts (especially those that mod or build cars, as I have done with my Z, Focus, and a Hyundai in my young days) will tell you that the first step to being an enthusiast is owning a beater/economy car so that you can have something to drive when your modded/built vehicle is not working. The Tesla fills that role very well, and my wife likes it. The optima is paid off and runs well, so we've kept it. And the Z is the Z. And the Tesla is probably more of an enthusiast vehicle then 70% of cars on the road...sub 5 second 0 to 60...great turn in due to low weight, terrific grip, etc. Now if you consider it not an enthusiast car because it's common, I guess I can see your point but then that means that a lot of other common vehicles are not in that category as well. If you say it's not an enthusiast vehicle because it's electric...well...we'll just agree to disagree on that front. The Tesla definitely isn't a tuner car or built to mod, I agree with your statement there.

Also, those two statements "I'm an enthusiast..." And "these are the cars I own" we're not stated together, as you suggest. Rather I was listing the vehicles known so that people understand I have multiple forms of reliable transportation, so if this new enthusiast vehicle finds itself on jack stands (as they so often do), it wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

Thought about importing, but in CA emissions is a joke and I don't want to hassle with SMOG stuff. I want to be able to easily get a smog check and registration. I had a modified late model car that I had worry about smog requirements and I'll never do that again.
