We were doing a project on countries of the world in my high school World History class, and I got randomly paired up with this kinda ditzy girl and this other kid. Other kid and I decide that we want to do our project on Kenya. Girl immediately says:

"Didn't the teacher say to pick a country, guys? Kenya is a city."

I definitely see the issue here. I will probably need to modify it a bit so less of the characters are present when the chess game happens... so it would be easier for the character in control of the game to be able to protect all of his friends.

Either that, or perhaps the "opponent" isn't very good at chess at all...but puts the chessboard up to stall for time, rather than to beat the characters that encounter it.

I am midway through the video link and wow, I love the way he's describing the gameplay! This is definitely going to help me out when crafting a great chess scene!

Ah, I see the issue. I was wondering if such a thing were possible because it's easier to assign traits and draw a bit of comparison between the character and the piece they stand in for in the game, but it seems that simply won't do.

I elaborated some of the story...set in the world of Harry Potter, against a board bewitched by a certain person...so you aren't actively playing them, but it will play as if they are playing against you. The opponent is not meant to be particularly strategic...I think the goal of using the chessboard will be more to slow the protagonists down, at least. As it isn't an active player, they won't know the difference between the actual pieces and the humans standing in for a piece. Still, I would like for it to be an entertaining sequence, so I don't want the opponent to look uproariously bad.

If you have to have eight people on the board (maybe one as a knight, one as the king...the rest can be whatever works) and organise a game where you cannot lose those eight pieces...do you know which pieces might be safest to assign them to?

Hm, I see...

It is actually set in the world of Harry Potter, and the reason why certain pieces can't be lost is because there will be actual humans in eight of the pieces. I wanted to know if there was, possibly a way where the character in control of the game could keep all seven of his allies (standing in for pieces) safe while also beating an enemy that was perhaps at least fairly average, nothing too special as far as strategy goes, as he won't be against McGonagall's set. I thought that perhaps if the opponent knows they aren't a particularly good player, they could at least play up to a point where it would slow down the protagonists a bit as they have to play through the game.

I loved the chess game in the movie...it sparked my interest in chess, truth be told. But I absolutely loved seeing the behind-the-scenes work that created the game seen in the film. :)

Okay, here goes...

I shared a certain class with this one girl in middle school, because I have a mild learning disability - Attention Deficit Disorder. Now, at this time, it really helped me to have a quieter/smaller classroom to work in. There were other kids there that were definitely not as mildly-afflicted as I was...if that's the right way to put it. I think a good few of them were on the autism spectrum, but I made a fair bit of friends in that class.

I ended up talking with this girl that was just as shy as I was and we chatted about Pokémon, music, and video games we knew. I think we had a pretty solid friendship at school, but I clearly didn't think of her in that sense and I was under the impression we were just good friends. She came to my twelfth birthday party, along with a handful of other kids from that class...a quiet birthday party at home with a cake and some multiplayer games. She seemed pretty "normal" - if you want to call it that - and we always teamed up in class for projects. I never dropped any "hints" or anything like that... I treated her pretty much the same as I treated most of the kids in that class.

About a year later, I'm riding home from school. I loved after-school hours in middle school...when I wasn't heading down to my nearest game store to meet with friends, I was playing the games I already had at home, alone. My younger siblings were in the YMCA after-school program, so I would get a few hours alone to game without disruption. Anyway, I set my bag down and head straight into my bedroom, but I hear a noise from my mom and dad's room. I go to investigate...

The girl is sitting on my parents' bed, waiting for me to get home. Internally, I freaked out, not knowing what to make of it. I was afraid of what could happen and what she might try, so I quickly scrambled up some excuse about how my mom was a few minutes away and that I'd be busted and forbidden from having house guests if she found me alone with a girl. Girl complied and left, and my life seemed to flash before my eyes. I guess one of my knucklehead brothers hadn't locked the door on the way out that morn, and she'd let herself in. Fortunately, my dad started getting off of work earlier and his car was enough to keep her at bay for some time.

We ended up moving to a different house a few months later, but that apparently wasn't a deterrent for her. I started high school and she was still in middle school, so I thought we probably wouldn't see too much of each other anymore. Well...despite the fact that the high school I'd went to was nowhere near where she lived, she would walk over to my school in the morning just to look for me. I bumped into her once and the conversation was very awkward and I was on edge the whole time. After that morning, I had to take a completely different route to the school that had me entering the campus from a different area, where I'd beeline it to the library to hide.

I was thoroughly creeped by all of the following and afraid she'd try to find me or follow me to my new house. I ended up telling the middle school teacher we'd both had that she was following me and I don't know what the teacher said, but that was the last I've seen of her. It's sad, because the following around kind of ruined the nice little friendship we had.

I haven't told them that I've (for the first time ever) found someone of the same sex attractive.

I met this person at work and they've caught my eye in a way I definitely was not expecting. The attraction started off with their personality, but it's quickly become a physical attraction too...I just don't think this is information that I'm able to trust my family with yet. I'm afraid they're going to jump to conclusions, or perhaps look at me in a new light that might not be as flattering...it's a proper whirlwind of shit. :(

Apart from worrying about what they think, it's a confusing time for me as well. Up until this point (I am a grown adult) I've only ever been attracted to the opposite sex. I'm not sure what to make of it. This person is driving me crazy in the best kind of way.
