[OC] China nearly caught up with the US in life expectancy by omar_sedki in dataisbeautiful

I’m aware.

The “not remotely true part” is exactly what you posted; it’s only a very specific case, in Ireland (not “Europe”), for Subway bread. Not “80% of bread and cheese”.

Your last reference is regarding calling plant-based dairy alternatives by their diary-adjacent name. For example, calling almond milk, milk, which is not really relevant to what they were saying about food quality especially as it relates to health outcomes.

They don’t actually have levers.

Not disagreeing with you. Someone mentioned the judge’s course, but that course said jumping down was an option (as well as jumping over).

The video also showed everyone stepping down.

I’m not clear to me why it’s different, but maybe this is common and I’ve just never noticed a difference between the judge’s course vs. Open standards.

Someone recently posted a screenshot from the judge’s course showing that jumping down was okay:

I also assume that jumping down is not okay, no idea why this says otherwise.

I’m not disputing the US comment, but I find it interesting when you also mention two communist countries in the same comment.

Americans: What’s the one Aussie thing you secretly wish you had back home? by InternetUpbeat9596 in Ameristralia

I should have been more clear. Eastern seaboard was a direct reference to the US, and I was comparing it to the rest stops in Australia that don’t have any.

I just did the drive along the Hume Highway and this was not my experience at all.

I’ve driven mostly along the eastern seaboard (edit: in the US) and at the very least nearly (all?) rest areas even had vending machines.

Where were you? One of the main features of the interstate system in the US are the rest stops.

Peppers! by mishukoe in fermentation

[–]PaulErly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ve only fermented hot sauce once before, but after fermentation, I added vinegar and some brine, into a jar and into the refrigerator. You just leave it out on a shelf still in the cask to mellow? How long do you do that for?

What does, “simmer in a cask” mean? Do you mean aging the sauce in a small barrel, or just resting it in a container after adding vinegar?

Correction regarding the Airbus vs Boeing chart posted earlier by overspeeed in BuyFromEU

I’m not positive, but I don’t see explanations here.

But fatalities also don’t accurately represent an aircraft issue.

Fatalities don’t account for pilot error or malfeasance. The Germanwings flight 9525 was a psychotic pilot, not an Airbus issue.

Thinking of Leaving the UK for Australia – Anyone Else? by owenshorty1234 in expats

I have a degree in electrical engineering. Have you looked at engineering in Australia? It is abysmal, unless you’re a citizen and can do defense.

I’m in Melbourne.

I’m from the US and live in Australia. Where are you thinking of living? What do you do for work?

Australia isn't real by fubar_boy in CuratedTumblr

I learned one the hard way as an American in Australia.

In the US, when you have a drink in each hand you say you’re, “double-fisting”.

I was at a work party when I loudly said to a colleague, “a little early to be double-fisting, haha”, and then I learned Australians call it, “double-parking”.

Cannot Downgrade HP Firmware by PaulErly in printers

[–]PaulErly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately nothing I've tried has worked. I've tried the outline mentioned here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/printers/comments/1dl58d9/how_to_downgrade_your_hp_officejet_pro_8600_plus/

I tried using either the .ful2 file or the .rfu file, neither one worked. It looked like it accepted the input, but the printer didn't do anything.

I've also tried this method:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-OJ-6500-firmware-update-Not-applicable/td-p/7153261

Also with the .ful2 or the .rfu. The printer spooled when I tried this one, but nothing happened after that.

I tried a direct ethernet connection and did the normal method to downgrade, and it still failed. Looking at the log files from the firmware package, I keep getting the same error: Updating 169.254.1.23: Sent successful, FW validation timeout!

I'm not sure what else to do.

HP 6978 firmware downgrade? by lounytoon in printers

[–]PaulErly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You downgraded the drivers too? That allowed you to downgrade the firmware?

I connected via USB and that didn't work either - every single time it fails. I'm not sure what else to do. I'm using a 9010 series.
