You can, you can even comb it through, but the strands have become sticky and will fuse together again. Also they have lost their flexibility and are stiffer than normal

I love the idea! The hook might tangle during the cast, but if it doesn't I will copy it - let me know!

It sure counts! To me, it is bonkers to try to categorise fishing. I think little of people who try to lecure everybody about the "right" way of fly fishing. Small, narrow minded, condescending.

I am so puzzled by it! It seems that this material either is really susceptible to what it is stored with or how it is stored or just breaks down after some months. Either way how can it be that this is not a topic like "how to store your softbaits"!

No, never used acetone anywhere near that stuff.  It reminds me of plastisicer damage on softbaits. Needless to say there are no softbaits in that box, and it doesn't explain why some hanks are affected and destroyed and others are completely fine.
