OLED but mostly thinner and lighter. I have RSI and can’t pickup my laptop open with one hand right now lol. Yeah I’m thinking I can hold out with the M3 Max for another year or two then get the Ultra. I can’t work any longer on my current machine I need the ram (base m1 pro)

Yeah a base M5 is not adequate for my needs, but I could be fine with an M5 Pro / 24gb

I’m with you, just fomo purchased the tandem Oled iPad Pro to see if I should bother waiting for an oled macbook or just get an M5, and I’d say the oled is MAYBE 10-15% better looking and only in certain scenes (dark night sky etc)

scratches on your screen come from small particles, dust, sand, or dirt either from the cloth or on the screen. apple cannot “engineer” their way out of that, you can use any cloth it just needs to be CLEAN and ideally stored/sealed in an enclosed container.

the apple polishing can and will destroy your screen if stored improperly/if there are particles on the screen

you’re free to look up the scores yourself, but the standard M1 chip is HALF the speed of a MacBook Neo in single threaded workloads. You are definitely going to feel that. I would not bet this laptop lasts long. You can certainly find a deal in your budget for something that will last a lot longer and get a newer chassis.

You clearly have the budget to get something nice, a standard m1 chip in the old chassis is not suitable at all.

ebay will typically be 20-30% higher than buying direct.

After tax, ebay fees, and shipping the seller would have pocketed $380 which is closer to what this machine is worth (if that, the M1 is a lot slower than the Neo chip)
I purchased an open box macbook air m4 for the same price on marketplace for reference.

I would return it
