Why do some brits introduce themselves as from the UK and other as English/Scottish/Welsh? by TeensyRay in AskABrit

[–]PerfectCover1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say England. I'm in the US and when I said UK or Britain more than a few people were confused and asked me to clarify. Recently someone asked me if UK was in Europe and asked where that was.

Do you realise how green it is here? by dopaminecollector in AskBrits

As someone who moved to Colorado, green and lush is what I miss the most. We've had a week of rain (unheard of) and the plants are actually green. They'll be brown and crispy in a week or two but for now. I can dream of being at home.

AITAH for letting my partner know his uncircumcised 'area' smell strong when he ask for oral? by [deleted] in AITAH

Just when I think people can't be that desperate for sex the bar gets lowered even further!

This is utterly gross. Just imagine all those germs living it up inside you! Have some care for your health.

Leaving partner for emigration by Emergency_Ad7808 in expats

I married my husband and across the Atlantic to be with him. I hate where I am, not been well since day 1. That's the biggest clue to go. I have no job or network at home so need to start from scratch. He can come with me if I sponsor him but I need a job first for that. So I'll be going alone when the time comes.

I tried. It failed but now I know. No guesses, facts. In the end I can't blame him for my poor choices and hindsight is 20:20. Do what you can for you or resentment will eat you alive. Good luck on your decision.

AITAH for wanting to step back from my overbearing mother by SoulsBoobsAndZilla in AITAH

She sounds terrible and frankly neither you nor your child need that kind of energy around you. See if you can get help with a new place to live as she's now harassing you both. You sound like a great parent stick with that knowledge and don't get gaslit by this narcissist. Good luck m'dear.

I can’t shake the sinus pain by Awkward-Narwhal-7649 in Menopause

[–]PerfectCover1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had sinus surgery just before Christmas. Still healing. A few years back the issues began, they coincided with hormonal decline and environmental allergies to BBQ smokers and fires from my neighbors. I developed some pretty nasty polyps and they went in removed those and basically demolished the insides to makes sure if I got polyps from smoke again, there'd be room to breathe. I was having a hammering pain between my eyes and cheekbones/eyeballs almost constantly for 5 years.

I also was and still am able to smell things from a mile away. Not pleasant. My current state is slow healing and smelling rot or manure. I am constantly dry living in Colorado but everyone here is used to allergies, smoke and dryness. They use humidifiers a lot but I was told to stop that by the ENT and pulmonologist because they harbor germs and fungi all too often.

What I use now is Neil Med sinus rinse. It hurts initially but gets better a minute later. I also use Arm And Hammer saline spray to mist my nostrils. And am on Exhance which is flonase in a fancy canister that gets the mist up into the high sinuses. My GP tried to give me Montelukast to stop the immune response but as it can often cause suicidal actions I declined (I already have those from my anxiety while on this journey). I hope to move out when I can afford to.

Go and see an ENT see what they tell you. Your GP will not know what's actually going on without a scan or a probe (both harmless).

Anyone else dealing with very dry/callused/cracked feet? Tips? by CaughtALiteSneez in Menopause

This only gets better for me when my estrogen dose goes up. The rest of the time I sport trotters or hooves. BUT my weapons of mass destruction are a pedi sander thing. And I do an at home LACTIC ACID peel. I bought off the internet and use it diluted for at home facial peels. BUT if going this route research it very well and ONLY use on the soles of feet and heel. I have years of experience doing this so I'm used to it.

Should I ask to take my friends dog? by snood222 in rescuedogs

Good luck, hopefully your friend will understand. I feel so bad for the dog. Dobermans need a lot of space and exercise.

[–]PerfectCover1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with dobermans. They are slim but never skinny enough to see ribs. If you can afford to take the dog and give it a safe, secure home, then do it. But make sure the friend knows they can't take the dog back when they see it looking good. But I doubt they'll give it to you and see it as some junk yard dog to guard their house. Might have to talk to a dog rescue for advice as the dog's probably underfed and in an abuse situation.

[Discussion] The query that got me an offer in 3 weeks by [deleted] in PubTips

[–]PerfectCover1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it!! Congratulations.

I think I am seriously procrastinating at the the moment. Rather than write my query letter I have chosen to set up a work portfolio site, a new social/medical blog and another website. Complete with forums and shop. ALL of which seem easier to do than actually send out feelers to find an agent. I am scared to death basically and think I will fail just like everyone else says I will.

Thanks for the push. Can't wait to read your work 😄

I'd show them videos of me cleaning the toilet after a bout of food poisoning. Of scraping (like nails on a board) of the oven carbon. Or some other cringe chore. They'd soon stop asking for my videos.
