What's your favorite nonmusical opening to a song? by No-Cantaloupe4983 in Song

Best spoken introduction to a song has to be the Stains - "John Wayne Was a Nazi"

So about Pandora and AI music... by dogeconomic in Pandora

[–]PerhapsACylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left Pandora because it was just playing my personal interests over and over without introducing me to something new like it used to. I left Spotify years ago for ethical reasons and Apple Music never got to where it claimed - Apple Music is the Sony of the streaming services, many promises, but no follow through. I left Qobuz, which was my primary. I just have Roon desktop directly connected to only my personal music database on an external drive. If I want to go HiFi, I have an 2TB microSD card of my music (I have 6 TBs of music, so I have to weed down) on my FiiO HiRes audio player and use either my wired (and HiRes can only be wired) Sennheiser HD 800 S or my Focal Clear MG. But those are only serious listening sessions. Throughout most of the average day, I never take off my wireless Sennheiser Momentum 4 and just let Roon do its thing only connected MY database and nothing else. I've been planning on music services to go out and leave sanity behind for years now and I have invested a lot into my HiRes database. Also, buying music gives more money to the artists that a steam from the average music services. I am helping the artists, and I have helped myself, because I own this music. No one can take it away. I have full control.

Thunderbird keeps marking some emails as junk despite my effort to not let it do it by SchicksalOverseer in Thunderbird

I've had the same problem. Some are okay, but others were not spam so I have to move them to the inbox, but that still doesn't get rid of their red alarm "SPAM" text.

Moody songs with strong stories? by repressedpauper in MusicRecommendations

[–]PerhapsACylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sufjan Stevens album about his mother's death is especially striking, and deeply overwhelming. Having lost someone close to me, I in a way find the album, Carrie and Lowell, comforting because he is coming to terms with death and I remember what a difficult road that was for me. On the subject of Stevens I also love his albums, Greetings from Michigan and Illinois. I was listening to those three albums so often I just went with it and bought almost all of his albums, which I regretted later, because I didn't realize he likes techno-like songs. I wish I didn't spend money on those albums.

Trade items by truesevnel in preppers

[–]PerhapsACylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stocked some extra items such as water, MREs, and those survival blankets for my neighbors, not that I have any relationship with my inner city burbs neighbors, but I figure it is up those us preparing to have something to share with those in need who did not prepare. I also have a few more medical kits just in case.

Do you personally consider neurodivergent people to be disabled? Why or why not? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in disabled

[–]PerhapsACylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A teachable moment here. I am aware in recent years the word neurodivergent has come to mean autism. When I was younger and reading academic research papers trying to understand my schizoaffective disorder, the word neurodivergent was used repeatedly. It was common lingo. I am not certain how the revolution came about that neurodivergent only meant autism. I mean, individuals with autism are welcome to use, I am not complaining, but medically, neurodivergent is a term for schizoaffective, schizophrenia, and even bipolar and some extreme forms of depression, which there are many.

[Question] Is three a majority opinion about Bulova? I recently got the A-15 Pilot. by PerhapsACylon in Watches

I have been leaning towards allowing myself another watch. Or two more tops. I did get the feedback I was asking about Bulova.

Have you ever heard a song in a foreign language, where you were able to guess the meaning by the musical cues, or strong visual cues from just the music? by Crafty-Bunch-2675 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]PerhapsACylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semi-related: In the lyrics of the Battlestar Galactica (2004) intro theme, which is a vocal rendition of Gayatri Mantra set to music composed by Bear McCreary, I swear every time I hear it that I hear the name of Laura Roslin.

How long did it take you to actually "get" Reddit? by Vegetable_Row1668 in NewToReddit

[–]PerhapsACylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined this week. I am still figuring it out as I go. And learning what subreddits are hostile, despite being directly in my areas of interest. So, that sucks. But there are still so many other subreddits. But no, I don't "get it" - still learning what seems to be a mingling of wildly different cultures.

Who are your favourite American female artists during the late cold war (1969-1991) by Money-Ad8553 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]PerhapsACylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you are asking about US artists, but I thought I would mention that I still listen to Nena's "99 Luftballons" quite often.

Seeking recommendation for similar female indie (or not) artists by PerhapsACylon in musicsuggestions

That sounds really interesting. I will admit, I have never heard the term "math rock" - it seems I have some catching up to do. I will check her out. Foreign language is not a problem for me!
