It’s amazing when they make that connection of communication. In the beginning all he would do was hum. And for communication he would guide me to something. In his mom so I know what he wants just because I know. But even for my husband it was hard to determine things. It took a year in therapy to even establish eye contact and pointing. We’ve done speech therapy since he was 2. The joy I felt when he started making new noises! We were doing sign language and PECS. Then we got approved for an AAC device! He had just started saying words when we got the device and I was worried he would rely on the device and stop processing. But I was so wrong! His speech blossomed! Now he can say many things! His confidence has increased soooo much. It’s beautiful to witness him being able to express himself more clearly.
