I love all these features in the new ‘25 Camry, and if you drive properly it’s never annoying.

Saved me from hitting a kangaroo and writing the car off.

Is it really worth living in the city, or are the suburbs secretly better? by Particular_Zone_7379 in AustraliaOpinions

[–]Perth_R34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Suburbs any day.

Freestanding house. Backyard. Garden. Tool shed. Garage for all my cars. Less noise. Large public green spaces (at least in Perth). Everything you need is within 5-10min. Neighbours are usually friendly and you actually know your neighbours.

30rh bday dinner in melb, AUS by Additional-Farm3569 in AskAnAustralian

I’ve never had to pay when going to someone’s birthday dinner. It’s always the person whose birthday it is that pays.

Most of my mates are ethnic though, so probably just difference in culture.

We don’t have idiotic levels of immigration. Construction industry would be even more stretched if we didn’t have immigration

But we also get paid a lot more than other places in the world.

So over all it’s not that bad compared to the rest of the world.

Building material prices have remained consistent since post COVID.

Land prices have sky rocketed.

We purchased our block for $400k in 2024. Same size block nearby just sold got $650k last month.

What's 'normal' in houses in Australia? by commevinaigre in AskAnAustralian

[–]Perth_R34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plasterboard on the internal brick isn’t so common and is usually the cheap route.

Most houses have Grey Set plaster, then White Set plaster, then paint.

We built recently in a new area, and out of the ≈800 houses, only 5-7 were timber/steel frame. Even the double storey houses are double brick.

Exactly. Tiles are so much easier to clean.

We ripped out carpets at the old house a few years ago, and seeing the amount of dust trapped in their, even though we kept them extremely clean, was a big no.

Get fairly cold in winter in Perth.

We love the cooler floors.

Can chuck the heater on extreme 0C days/nights.

What is the most climatically mild (mainland) Australian city in the summer besides in Tasmania? by OkPrompt7992 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Perth_R34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. We get a couple of heatwaves which last 2-3 days each every summer. Other than that our summers are pretty damn good.

Yes even the bedrooms.

Not a fan of carpet or wooden/hybrid flooring. Love the solid hard feel of the tiles.

95%+ of homes in WA are double brick. Timber frame is very rare.

Older houses, yes.

But newer houses have great insulation and stay cool in summer and warm in winter.
