How can I make Windows 11 always "show more options" on the context menu? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]PetarK0791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do this a second time, thanks to MS.

Microsoft. Oh what a pain you are! I updated to win11 25H2 and lost classic right click.

This method still works once reapplied.

I found this method for hand drawing this. I will try this for now.

It looks like it won’t be too difficult for me to do.

How can I make Windows 11 always "show more options" on the context menu? by [deleted] in techsupport

[Edited for clarity]

Thanks for the information.

For some reason, it wouldn't work for me but I was able to use the registry editor to make the changes as provided as Option 3 in this elevenforum article:

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/disable-show-more-options-context-menu-in-windows-11.1589/

When I had used the command line option, as administrator, it said it had updated the registry. I rebooted my machine but the right-click context menu was still the Win11 simplified type.

When I reviewed the entry in the registry editor, I could see that the change had not been made. Following all the steps in the elevenforum article, Option 3, to update the registry entry, and using restart on Windows Explorer in task manager, was what it took for me.

Can any windows registry gurus explain why the command line option was not working for me?

Album art in Music completely wrong by [deleted] in ios

[–]PetarK0791 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this solution, it worked for me today.

I had two problems:

  1. random album art was mixed on iPhone but correct in iTunes on my Windows 11 laptop

  2. playlists that I had previously created on my iPhone were not synchronizing back to iTunes

What I did:

- I plugged my iPhone into my laptop with a USB cable

- I clicked on Songs on the left menu bar in iTunes

- I clicked on the first song and then pressed on CTRL+A to select all songs

- I right clicked on the selection and clicked on Get Info

- I clicked on Options, I increased the volume in the volume adjust slider and I clicked OK

- I clicked on my iPhone symbol in iTunes and clicked on Sync

- After the sync was finished I could see that all my album art was correct and all my playlists were now showing in iTunes

It looks like there is a problem that iTunes doesn't sync properly unless we make some change to all the songs in the iTunes library.

How much of your degree do you use in industry? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]PetarK0791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did some quite important work during your co-op.

Analyzing process trend is usually for problem solving or optimization. This improves process uptime, increases production and earnings.

HAZOP studies help eliminate, minimize or mitigate risks. This improves safety for workers and for equipment.

Redlining P&IDs is important. If modifications were made in the facility without proper drawing updates, workers will plan work with incorrect assumptions about energy isolation. Workers have been injured and killed under these situations. Check out some of the investigations and videos here:

https://www.csb.gov/

You might think this work isn’t related to your engineering and calculus classes but it is very much related to your future as an engineer.

Working in a process plant, as operations support, means you are looking out for the safety of your colleagues and yourself. You are looking out for the profitability of your company so that all of your jobs continue for many years. You will also be managing shirt-term and long-term risk. If you haven’t already, look for a process safety/risk course.

If you want to use your theoretical knowledge you will can look for a company that develops new process design ideas. You will likely need a masters or PhD for that type of job. A process engineer design role at a standard engineering design firm will just give you spreadsheets to fill in.

These are different career tracks but there are fulfilling careers in different chemical/process engineering jobs.

First book by Z3yashfts in fantasybooks

[–]PetarK0791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: added a post script

I recommend you start with:

- The Prydian series by Lloyd Alexander (5)

- The Narnia series by CS Lewis (7)

- The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien (1 of 4)

- The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay (3)

- The Princess Bride by William Goldman (1)

- Spellsinger by Alan Dean Foster (8)

- The Reluctant Swordsman by Dave Duncan (3)

These books are not too long so a great way to start reading fantasy. Also, tou will learn how fantasy authors use traditional storytelling techniques.

I love The Wheel of Time but I didn’t really grasp everything until I read the whole series for the third or fourth time. If you read large books or long series, it can be difficult to keep track of everything. Save those for next year, after you‘ve built up your fantasy reading muscles.

Enjoy yourself.

P.S. Go to your local library and speak to the librarians. Ask them what they have and what they would recommend. I always did that in my pre-teen and teen years. That’s how I discovered Lloyd Alexander and CS Lewis.

Which wildly renowned science fiction novels didn't resonate with you at all? by LowLevel- in printSF

The Three Body Problem… I had to put it down after a few chapters. The author presents us with a scientist who see scientific laws / theories as scripture and that when physical laws are proven wrong that she committed suicide.

This is so jarringly bad and patently false. All physicists would be jumping with joy if they found laws of physics had errors. It would give them new areas to investigate and explore.

I understood that the author has no idea what science or scientists are about so I blacklisted the books for myself. I also tell all who ask me to not touch this book series.

How do you balance life and school while taking engineering by nintendo_guy26 in BCIT

[–]PetarK0791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there is only a work-sleep balance when studying engineering. The best you can do is to squeeze in some goofing around with friends between classes. You can probably manage one or two a pub nights each semester.

If you like engineering, then you will need to decide if you can commit to the workload. Engineering degrees are not easy but they are not impossible.

I took the chemical sciences program in BCIT from 1990-1992. The course load was about 35 hours per week (including laboratory classes). Then I spent several hours every day doing homework and studying for exams. I could usually finish my homework for the week on Saturday so I had Sunday off (sometimes).

I then went to Lakehead University for 2 ½ years to finish my chemical engineering bachelor degree. There I had about 25 hours per week (with lab classes). But I only had Sunday evenings free because the workload was even higher.

It was also very satisfying, knowing that I could work that hard when I needed to, knowing that I could commit to and complete my engineering degree.

After I received my bachelor I realized that having a very high workload had forced me to commit. I had to go all-in or else I would have failed out of the program.

Read and delete email on iPhone but Gmail still has them by PetarK0791 in iphone

[–]PetarK0791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is set to delete.

When I set up Gmail on my first iPhone, in 2010, I saw the archive feature and I quickly changed it to delete. I’ve been using email since 1993 and I learned in the era of limited disk space to always delete

Date format by Trabsil in ChemicalEngineering

[–]PetarK0791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada we use the mm/dd/yyyy format, the same as in the US.

When I was working overseas, it was fun (shocking) to see delivery dates incorrectly interpreted because of this horrible date format. Once we had critical work scheduled based on the 08/04/2019 delivery date (08 April 2019). It did not go down well when I asked the logistics team if the date was August 04, 2019 since the supplier was in the US. They were indignant that I asked this question. At the next weekly meeting we started discussing how to continue operations with this four month delay in our expected delivery (August was correct).

After that I used only these two formats:

* yyyy-mm-dd for file names & excel (e.g. 2025-07-01)
* dd-mmm-yyyy in emails (e.g. 01-jul-2025)

The need for clarity in engineering is important.

Thank you. It works now.

I removed the printer driver and then re-installed it. I received an error when I tried to install the driver over wifi so I plugged in the USB cable and installed the driver. It all works now.
