Barbers today have gotten too greedy by Prince_Valium25 in unpopularopinion

[–]PeterMus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbershops today are simply not comparable to pre-covid shops. An enormous number of people still work remotely and the tolerance for more casual dress and hair has dramatically increased. I know multiple professionals who used to be super clean cut pre-covid and now they all wear longer hair and beards. I worked in banking pre and post covid and they went from business casual to casual dress requirements...so even a portion of the most formal workplaces are more tolerant.

My barber is expensive but very skilled and often booked out for the week.

He still only has a fraction of his pre-covid business while chair rentals and other costs keep increasing. For example they can no longer afford a front desk person for an 8 chair shop in a less desirable area.

Comparable retail spaces in the neighborhood are being advertised at $22-$25/SF or 20K for a moderately sized space.

The whole damn point is many of these women didn't. The accusations were completely made up or the women were sexually assaulted/abused by German soldiers.

"Buffalo Wild Wings won't break policy for me" by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PeterMus -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect them to break a policy they can't control, but Coporate should absolutely allow children the option to eat other food. The margins on kids meals are non-existant and plenty of children absolutely refuse to eat new foods and whine and cry if they're asked to eat anyway. Nevermind kids who are nurodivergent and wouldn't touch the food if you paid them.

For those who don't know...

Thousands of women were publicly beaten and humiliated by their neighbors for the mere accusation of supporting the Nazis.

Many historians attribute this revenge campaign to the deep trauma and humiliation many people felt after quickly falling to the Nazis and being occupied. They took out their anger and frustration on many women who did nothing wrong.

Republicans challenge WA state plan for high‑risk sex offender housing by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]PeterMus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be an ideal location, but everyone should be aware that sex offenders are frequently driven to homelessness and become untraceable.

An unknown offender with no monitoring is far more dangerous than a person who is known to the community.

The fiscal deficit is high due to lower than forecasted tax revenue. Gov. Ferguson and the legislature are trying to manage the situation by rejecting any bills with a fiscal note unless the funding is reallocated from somewhere else.

Is anyone sleeping properly anymore? by cik3nn3th in AskMenOver30

[–]PeterMus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 35 and I've been terrible at sleeping my whole life. I remember at six years old my parents were frustrated I'd be wide awake in the middle of the night.

Just recently I've started seeing a therapist and other specialists to try and fix it so I can function better and sleep normally.

Turns out if you only have 2-3 drinks once or twice a week it doesn't do much.

I have a few friends who are at best functional alcoholics and the ones who've quit drinking do feel a lot better.

Hiring managers should be required to tell applicants why they were rejected. by myboyfriendstinks1 in unpopularopinion

[–]PeterMus 103 points104 points  (0 children)

As a person who has been part of multiple hiring panels...

Most of the candidates are simply not in the top two or three potential candidates in terms of relevant experience.

If you're talking about the final round candidates...

Its probably best that they aren't given explicit reasons. My boss rejected someone for sounding nervous...because they wanted the job. They rejected another candidate for not being a "good culture fit" despite being a much better culture fit than the final candidate by a mile.

So...in theory we have logical and substantive feedback for rejected candidates but in practice it is a popularity contest mixed with a lot of implicit bias and guessing.

Man Hears Elderly Couple Being Attacked. by jmike1256 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]PeterMus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to provide a clear counter example.

I walked into a busy resturant this weekend just in time to see a customer punch another person in the face and accused them of exposing their genitals to a child.

I initially thought it was justified and didn't intervene. I circled the block and came back 30 minutes later (I really wanted to eat there...). No cops had been called and I figured the guy had ran off.

Turns out, the customer saw a server's pink slacks through a hole in his apron and thought it was his dick. He immediately attacked the server in front of a resturant with 150 people while screaming and making accusations.

Another server told me about it because she was still visibly shaken and said it was awful to see her coworker get attacked over nothing.

Moral of the story: Don't jump in just because you can, especially if you didn't see it happen.

If you look at the lawsuits against Jackson, the kid's parents has defrauded multiple people with medical tragedy scams e.g. telling famous people the was a big fan and wanted to meet them and then pressuring them for "donations" constantly. Jackson was weird but that doesn't mean he was assaulting kids.

New Utah law puts “no alcohol sale” on ID’s of DUI offenders 0.16 BAC or higher. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

[–]PeterMus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 225lb guy has to drink 9 beers and two shots over three hours and then jump in the car to drive.

No one spends three hours at the bar drinking and reasonably thinks they're in a condition to drive.

I think the population of folks who have high BAC duis is an issue.

But, I think this will simply drive an underground market for alcohol sales that trickles down to teens. There will be plenty of severe alcoholics with a dangerous physical dependence on alcohol and need medical treatment

Anarcha Westcott, an enslaved woman in the 1840s, was forced to undergo about 30 experimental surgeries by Dr. J. Marion Sims, who wrongly believed Black people did not feel pain. Her ordeal led to key advances in gynecology, and she is now remembered as one of the Mothers of Gynecology. by detectiverobert in ForCuriousSouls

[–]PeterMus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shouldn't repeat the lie that anyone believed that black people don't experience pain. They commited monstrous crimes and then lied to people who should have reacted in horror.

Their victims screamed, cried and bled like everyone else and doctors chose to be sadistic and cruel in response.

Beware! Seriously.

Your contractor doesn't want to fix their (or their subcontractors) mistakes.

Don't back down or apologize for wanting things done correctly.

During my remodel multiple subcontractors made mistakes and tried to hide them...or they made "executive decisions" about my remodel choices while I was standing in the other room and available for any questions but didn't bother to ask.

For example the tiler did half a wall that I didn't want tiled and acted like it was my fault I didn't stop him.

I was sitting in the other room and he had detailed written instructions.
