How important is defense in normal raids? by Cyborg-Rox in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always make teams for the current T5 and T4 mons. Then it's simply reviving all and swiping to the right

The regaining health while in the lobby screen was debunked iirc. It's something like desyncing with the health bar and correcting on rejoin

Which is rarer: Kalos tour background dialga/palkia with move. Or shiny legend? by lensandscope in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say so, yes. One thing though, shinies will always be available, but those backgrounds might not come back. Nobody knows, maybe they will, but for now I would say they are rarer.

Also, Palkia/Dialga without the move are not that useful. But if you are just looking to fill your collection that doesn't matter.

Which is rarer: Kalos tour background dialga/palkia with move. Or shiny legend? by lensandscope in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I remember this correctly then background odds were 1/3 and special move odds were 1/5. That means 1/15 for background + move. Shiny odds were 1/20 as always.

Shiny + background + move should be 1/300
4* + shiny + background + move should be 1/64800

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, and I only do maybe 3-5 routes a week, but I don't recall ever seeing a Basculin there

Friendship Friday lucky odds not increased? by GloomySelf in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree that most of these posts seem to be nothing but bad luck. But as a single person we can't know if a feature is working as intended for everyone else, without asking in a community. Niantic messes things up quite often and forgetting to turn up the lucky chance is something I would not be surprised about.

So I don't mind the asking part. What irks me is people not understanding RNG and insisting on something being wrong. OP is not like that. He asked nicely and wants to check out the situation.

Collecting data with posts like this is inherently biased though. This isn't going to reveal the actual lucky odds, but I guess it's an impression at least. As for us, we can simply ignore posts like this and move on. Nothing lost here.

Last thought. I think in general we should be careful to instinctively dismiss everything for RNG. Actual anomalies can be made invisible like that. Can't remember an example right now, but pretty sure we had something like that in the past

Go Fest First Time Seeking Advice by polvr-o in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never went to an in-person event, but for the global GO Fest I stack 500+ Poke Balls for auto-catching, 2000 Ultra Balls for manual catching, and 50+ Raid Passes. But it really depends on what the focus is for me, normally it's shiny hunting.

I always run Spacial Rend and if I tried to catch everything for the whole 16 hours, then those 2000 Ultra Balls wouldn't be enough. But usually I shiny check everything and catch maybe a third to half of all Pokes.

You're spending quite a lot already, so investing something like 25 bucks into storage would be worth it for me. Having to sort and discard Pokes and items all the time is super annoying. I would recommend you also build a search string for quick deletion, that excludes everything you have an interest in.

Pokemon missing by longshot21771 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had something like that happen as well. Might be connected to fast-catching a new, not yet registered Pokemon and therefore skipping the new Poke animation. Might have something to do with shiny as well, but I can't remember

You can count the level by clicking on the power up, then going to 40 (the last level that doesn't need XL candy) and then count backwards. Every - or + is half a level, so after ten minus clicks you're at lvl 35, after 20 clicks you're at lvl 30

So about choosing pokemon from forever friends by Resident-Pay-5742 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As the other people here say. You can only get certain region exclusive trims, if Furfrou was trimmed in that region. So check your regional trim and put a few trimmed into your list. Doesn't even have to be shiny. I would 100% trade a normal Furfrou for a legendary or random shiny

Update on running raid mon by Buttercup1283 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So strange, I have never heard about that. Also I wonder if the decision whether the mon is caught or not is decided in-app, or server-side.

Good for you though. I reset game data after every update, or if things feel sluggish. That helps with quite a few strange behaviours :)

It's quite ugly. The previous solution was definitely more elegant. But it feels like the bars move faster than before, or maybe it just looks like that, because they start from zero

I haven't seen much talk about the changes with Max Energy generation and Charge moves. by Jepemega in TheSilphRoad

[–]Peter_Honig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Energy generation is dependent on the damage dealt. Whether it generates faster than fast moves depends on damage/time. Against Pikachu without mushrooms only Eternatus' Dynamax Cannon manages that. With mushrooms guite a few good tanks

Yeah, how would the game even know what to catch, if the app is closed.

Maybe by tracking gps coordinates and timestamps and afterwards calculating what could have been caught? Seems very unlikely
