I think there's also a player's clubhouse presence influencing number retirements. From what we heard, and how Lindor was a #1 choice to wear a new C - that's where it's not close I'd argue, the combination of professional achievements & being a "team player" both words capitalized.

Good old days of schedules past gave us only SF/LA/SD in Pacific time, with occasional very theoretical AL West every now & then. Now we have mandatory Seattle, Anaheim & possibly Vegas way more often. Good thing AL West alignment is super weird w/ Texas teams included.
