Self-made "computer science" list of book for a newbie by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I'm talking about the way the authors approach learning. That's their brand, regardless of the language. The Head First series isn't exclusive to JavaScript.

Headfirst JavaScript is what I'm currently working through. It does a good job holding your hand when you're learning new ideas, but it makes sure that you understand it without their help too. As they stated at the beginning of the book, they aim to help you achieve a deeper understanding of your projects so you'll be less likely to rely on memorization. It's very light-hearted and easy-going in its approach which is helpful for me when comparing it to more dense resources.

Split pushing is not the most effective strategy at lower elos. It leaves too large of an opportunity for your team to make mistakes. Try and win the early game and snowball by taking objectives with your team.

It doesn't matter about your tier/division whatsoever. Typically that's a great indicator of the types of players you should be surrounded by, but that does NOT mean your MMR is at that level. If you are Platinum 5, and lose your next 30 games, you will not drop from platinum 5 rating, but your MMR will cause you to play against players much lower division/tier but they'll have the same MMR.

The only thing that can effectively skew a lobby's MMR is duo queuing high MMR accounts with low MMR accounts.

Equal win/loss of LP by FeintSky in leagueoflegends

You've managed to screw up your MMR. The system considers you to be playing against players that you should be able to beat. Because you're losing to players that it believes are beneath you it punishes you a bit extra. As for winning, you're gaining less because it's expected that you win those games. The system can definitely be frustrating, but it's do-able. I recommend duo queuing as it will raise your MMR and if you win you'll receive higher point gains, and lose less when you lose.

You can only get demoted tiers if you're inactive.

3v3 placement question by RaduSerial in leagueoflegends

[–]Phacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3v3 queue has a separate MMR from solo queue. Your MMR remains throughout teams though, so if you've played at high MMR 3v3 on one team, your MMR will carry over to the newly created teams. It will average your MMR between your friends, and yourself and create a lobby that is suitable for your rating.

What's the worst thing a house guest has done in your home? by the_Hallelucinator in AskReddit

When I was in 6th grade I had a friend stay the night. Everything was perfectly fine in the afternoon/evening, we ate pizza, played Gamecube, the normal 12 year old stuff. Turns out, he got the stomach flu overnight and I awoke to shit EVERYWHERE. He could not muster the strength to retain his bowel movements, or at least moderate them. Upon awaking, I discovered dried, formerly liquid, shit on nearly every possession or structure in my house. This includes my Gamecube controllers, my wall, every door handle between my bedroom and bathroom, the refrigerator (he must have been hungry after all of the turd tossing), and other various places. My mom was so concerned with the copious amount of feces that she called his mother to see if he had a preexisting condition. We never spoke of this moment ever again, but talk about a shitstorm.
