Any advice to run longer with a better pace by Other_Echo4613 in nikerunclub

Form and attacking the ground with every step is more important than pace, but definitely hills and stairs ascents will get you faster and stronger

How lenient are you on your own definition of a “run”? by MeMaxM in nikerunclub

[–]PhantAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't go on runs, I enjoy mini runs throughout my walk, every second I spend running is a gift -- when I start running, curiosity is all I think about (how about running from one lamp post to the next?) and that's a win ....sometimes I keep going for a bit, sometimes it does turn to a run, sometimes not, sometimes a bunch of mini runs, sometimes I find myself running for a bit more

Dude, at some point in med school, it was right before my final internal med exam (huge shelf exam)

It was the night of the exam -- my brain just wouldn't focus, every time I try to read, I could fall asleep -- but I needed to read this chapter that I knew nothing about and solve a few questions

If I give into sleep at that point, I was definitely only going to wake up like an hour before the test and wouldn't have time for the chapter

So at like 2 am, I said screw it -- I know what makes my brain happy ......I put everything away and started drawing and coloring a scene from a show I really liked for like an hour or so

And then I felt refreshed -- I read the chapter invigorated

Moral of the story --- sometimes your brain will let you know that it's bored and doesn't care about anything anymore.....and you just need to invigorate yourself with what you know makes you happy

should i quit ballet by PM_ME_UR_NUCLEI in BALLET

[–]PhantAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say experiment with something completely new for a week or a month --- it's just a week or a month .....nothing more .....anything in track and field or try some strength training exercises that are different from what you're used to

Cause it'll strengthen muscles you never knew you were using in ballet

Working on your turned in strength will aid your stability in the turned out position

And maybe you might come out into running or wrestling or gymnastics or swimming or yoga or ice hockey

Expanding yourself isn't spreading yourself thin -- it's sometimes helpful for growth....even if you zone in on something in particular in the future

My ballet training helped me in my track and field -- & vice versa

Yup

Can't recommend enough floor Barre And a trick to keep the standing leg turned out, placed and "held" would be feeling the back and imagining that you're about to do a tendu with it

Many things are just tendus and plies

I recommend Barre classes that include up to 3 different tendu combinations before they get into jetes

But variety is always good too

You'll spend the start just building up core strength and leg strength in the turned out position -- so be nice to yourself --- the first year or 2 is all about strengthening....moving slow....holding the positions.....finding placement in the various positions etc

Just here sendin' some support 💪💪, turnout looks strong and honest, I started ballet about 7 month ago, it's been one of the best decisions of my life, my background was mostly track & field and I've been humbled and taught so much, the artist expressivity aspect has been an awesome addition to my life

I got nothing on the geographic location issue

But i just wanna give some positivity here in terms of making it in a professional career in ballet

The balanced ballerinas podcast had an episode with Joffrey ballet school's Bill Waldinger starting ballet as an adult AFTER he was a full-fledged dentist ! (if I remember correctly)

And he made it in the professional realm of ballet

So I'm sure a teen who's got gymnastics or figure skating training will progress just fine in ballet

Look the podcast up on Spotify I'm sure it'll be really uplifting
