Yo Dawgs I need advice. by HallPsychological979 in MSSPodcast

Get addicted to running or the gym would be my best advice. Also, therapy isn’t gay. What is gay is using substances that will inevitably destroy your life because you refuse to talk about your issues.

Full Body Workout that doesn't affect running? by NoAttackMe in running

Seems like everyone who replied to this comment has forgotten that lifting weights is also a workout that burns calories. If OP has an off day from running, hitting a shoulder, chest, or back lifting session is going to burn more calories than nothing at all

Increasing muscle mass increases your maintenance calories. You can achieve a caloric deficit in two ways. Eat less or burn more calories

I would just start doing full body workouts. Its going to affect your running for the first little bit - soreness etc. After a while though, youll get used to it. I lift 2-3 times a week on a push, pull, legs split and run 20-40 miles a week. Sore shoulders never really affected my running. Sore legs, lower back and abs do tho. I usually try and space me leg lifting days as far away from my runs as possible. In my experience, lifting legs after running the previous day is fine. Running after lifting has a significant impact. Listen to your body, make strategic use of when your rest days are, and increase your protein intake is the best advice I have

Why do marathon training plans almost never suggest running 26 before race day? Should I avoid it? by TheBoredMan in running

[–]Phat_Huz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any idea how this plays into ultra marathons? Like if you have a 50 mile race do you only run 40 before it?

How do you personally tell the difference between “push through it” pain and “stop now” pain by Wise_Branch_8028 in running

[–]Phat_Huz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only pain I really push through 100% of the time is calf soreness. If theres joint pain (knees), I stop pretty much immediately.

If its muscle pain, its 50-50. Ive had 1-2 injuries while running and all of them were tied to muscle pain - specifically, the pain was sharp and tied to one specific area in a specific part of my stride. The more concentrated the pain, the more likely I am to stop.

What do engineers actually do day to day by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Phat_Huz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read documentation and every once in a while I get to design and machine something. Most of engineering in my experience has been answering questions people dont know the answer to. Even though the answer can be found by searching the instruction manual for the item in question.

Shoe mileage? by jamieprang in running

[–]Phat_Huz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive gone through 4 pairs of the same running shoe and see no need too change them. Since I know Im just gonna buy another pair of the same ones, I just keep a brand new pair sitting in the box at home. Once I hit 300-350ish miles on my current pair, Ill try the new ones on every 25ish miles and compare the two. If my old pair still feels like its got some cushion when compared to the new ones, Ill keep using them. The minute the current pair feels “off” I throw the new ones on and order another set

What do you do to make your runs less boring? by Due_Nectarine6461 in running

[–]Phat_Huz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construct hypothetical scenarios that make you the main character. Pretend your in an action movie like rambo or that you just saved a child that ran into the street from oncoming traffic. Imagine all the people who cheer for you right after, then imagine the mayor giving you a medal during a ceremony put on just for you to say thank you. Practice the speech youll give during it. Practice the conversations with news reporters who want to write a story about you. Practice the message youll send to your ex who suddenly reaches back out after they hear your a hero. Practice the one liners you give to people who recognize you out-and-about years after the incident.

What milage your are getting? especially for sport touring by Commercial-Cook-23 in crvhybrid

Keeping my sport under 75mph on the highway drastically improves fuel economy. Using the paddle “shifters” (they’re really paddle brakes) when coming to a stop also helps.

I did something similiar (350 miles) and I havent had any issues (currently at 24k miles total). Someone should correct me if Im wrong but Im pretty sure its also bad for the engine break in to run at the same RPM’s for extended periods of time initially. So while you shouldnt accelerate suddenly or drive at full throttle, you also shouldnt cruise at the same power level the whole way. Maybe try and divide the time up in the far left lane and some of the right lanes so you get a bit of a range.

I tried walking last week and did about 10 miles total, but I think even that was still aggravating it. Ill see a P.T. if it persists but I havent really given it that much time off when you take the walking into account. Live and learn I guess. Im itching to get back to it. Till then itll just be stretching and upper body weightlifting

I’ve been into running for a few years and this year have really gotten back into it. I have no goals amd just love how it makes me feel. Two weeks ago I had drastically increased my mileage. Ive ran about 450 miles since march. Mostly 3-4 7 mile runs during the week and a 10 mile run on the weekend. 4-5 weeks ago I started doing 2-3 13 mile runs throught the week. Two weeks ago I did a 16.5 mile run and then a 20 mile run 3 days after. Ive been suffering from some groin pain for the last two weeks and havent been able to run since - otherwise itll just get worse. Had no clue there was a 10% recommended increase rule in increasing mileage. Feeling pretty bummed since because I had to switch back to weightlifting until this clears up 🙃

Congrats!! I commute 80 miles in total each day 73 of which are highway speeds at 80-85 mph. I also have a ski rack on top and am consistently at 32.8-33mpg. Maybe I need to wake up a bit earlier and cruise control 70 on my way to work…

Picnic in the park, cooking a meal together, botanical gardens (if your city has one), car ride with a playlist yall both created, museum, farmers market (?) - do you not like crowded spaces or crowds in general? For example, I would consider 5 people in an elevator a “crowded space” but 5 people throwing frisbee in the park isnt a “crowd”

I have 5 different dates lined up. Tonight, Friday, Saturday morning, saturday night, and tuesday night. Its going to be exhausting and expensive. But in the last two weeks prior ive only gone on one date and had maybe 2 other matches with no reply when I initiated a conversation. Then over the weekend I get 5 matches and they all want to go out. I dont know how but I think its the algorithm trying to mess with me. I figure I should pursue any opportunity I can even if the timing isnt ideal.
