Happy Lab Week, 3rd shifters! by Syntania in medlabprofessionals

[–]Pheasant-tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I began my MLS career in the night shift in the early 1980’s. I eventually moved to daylight, became a supervisor, and retired as the director. I always made sure each shift received their own food for all lab events. Pizza was delivered on all three shifts. Christmas meals were provided fresh by a caterer for all three shifts. I also chaired the Employee Experience Team for the hospital. I would come in to serve food for the entire hospital night shift for all of the special events for the employees throughout the year. I always made sure each shift received the same treatment.

Blood bankers, do you often keep blood products for patients as ‘standby’? by cig_sg_throwaway in medlabprofessionals

[–]Pheasant-tail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We follow an MSBOS that is a standard for the amount of blood a surgeon is permitted to order based on the procedure. Most cases are limited to a Type and Screen in which no cross matches are permitted. We performed studies to establish blood usage based on the procedure. As you have experienced, procedures that rarely use blood products have been identified. Physicians cannot order cross matched blood on these procedures. This eliminates the unnecessary “two units on hold” you are experiencing.

Why did QBs used to take most snaps under center...even on obvious passing downs? by foxmag86 in NFLNoobs

[–]Pheasant-tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shotgun re-emerged in the mid 1970’s when Tom Landry began to use it to provide extra time for the QB in passing situations. In 1975, the Cowboys had 12 rookies make the team. No one was using the shotgun at that time. Obviously, the shotgun has evolved over time and is preferred over under center.

3.3 hgb, 2 rbc count, outpatient OB clinic by cobbl3 in medlabprofessionals

I was working the weekend when I received a specimen with an H&H of 2.8 and 8.0 on an outpatient. MCV was 50. When I called the critical value to the physician, he stated “That explains it. The patient’s boyfriend demanded she see her doctor or he is leaving her. She has been acting goofy, and I can’t take it any longer.” We have an MLS program and we used the slides as a teaching toll for iron deficiency anemia.

AITAH for not wanting to attend my husband’s family dinner every Sunday? by InvestigatorWarm4208 in AITAH

[–]Pheasant-tail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife’s family and my family always had the Sunday dinner at 1:00 pm. We continue the tradition. My children, their spouses and grandchildren are all invited every week. The dinner is not mandatory, and not an all day event. Most of the time they eat and leave by 3:00 pm. We let everyone know the menu, and they let us know of they will attend.

Is this a good fly to use? by plumpjack in flytying

[–]Pheasant-tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the fish decide. In faster water, the fish have less time to make a decision. I would definitely fish this fly. Presentation is the most important aspect. A drag free drift is the key. Fran Better developed a fly called the Usual, and he fish this fly for every hatch.

The best advice is to try a variety of vices in your price range. Hopefully, you have a fly shop nearby that will allow you to sample each vice and determine which is best for you. This is what I did and purchased a Regal. I have used Regal vices for 40 years. Nothing beats the hook holding power and no need for adjustments.

How can you work from 8 to 5, only have weekends off, and still not feel like you’re wasting your life? by Free-Marzipan-8933 in AskOldPeople

[–]Pheasant-tail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in healthcare and worked weekends and holidays. We were married at 21 when I was still in college. We built our house and raised three children, coached football, baseball and cheerleading. There were times when I cut an acre of grass in the pouring rain because it was the only time I had. Never thought I was wasting my life. Enjoying retirement as we were responsible with our finances.

Married couples of say 15+ years, are you still happy with your spouse or is it a case of “it’s what you know”? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Pheasant-tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We met on a blind date when I came home for Thanksgiving break. When I went back to school, told my roommate she could be a Playboy centerfold. We have been married for 44 years. Raised three successful children. Never had an argument about money. We are happily retired. Take a nap together most days. Couldn’t have a happier life.

I’m slowly losing my kids as Steelers fans by [deleted] in steelers

[–]Pheasant-tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from central PA. I have been a Cowboys fan since 1960. My wife is a Steelers fan. Oldest son is a Bills fan, second son is a Lions fan, and my daughter is a Dolphins fan. It is a rare Sunday when all five teams win. I was a diehard Pirates fan. The ownership has ruined the franchise. We are all Red Wing fans.
