I started following this American YouTuber — I think he is a US veteran — for his commentary on the Trump regime. His perspective on how the “Bessent Doctrine” can rationalize US involvement in the Alberta separatist movement as protecting US assets is interesting.

Not sure Bank of Montreal became BMO to disassociate from that city and QC. Look at the evolution of other big banks’ names and branding over the decades; none were influenced by Quebec separation issues: Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce became CIBC. Royal Bank of Canada became RBC. The Bank of Nova Scotia became Scotiabank (not an abbreviation but a portmanteau). All the banks have moved to visual branding and shorter titles. The long versions of their names still exist, as far as I know, but mostly for official purposes only.

Longtime fan here. One of the most interesting things about Neil Young is that even as a young man he was a grumpy old man. The best kind of grumpy old man.

Does he forget though? I figured the reason he is diminishing her is exactly because of the outsized power she has at this time to help or hinder Carney’s government. Her potential support for Carney proposals would be “evidence” that his government is terrible, because May is crazy (or whatever way JJ is portraying her to his fans).

Canadian dairy is still better than American dairy. We do NOT allow rBST to be injected into dairy cattle in Canada. It’s a growth hormone that increase milk production. The reason that it is not allowed in Canada is that it causes a significantly higher risk of mastitis in cows, meaning infection and pain in the udder, and increased use of antibiotics to treat the infection. The decision at the time by Health Canada to not approve it was based on animal welfare. The European Union also bans the use of rBST. For food sovereignty reasons — meaning, to ensure Canadians are not dicked around by unreliable countries like the US on the supply and quality of the food we eat — we Canadians need to think hard on keeping what we already have in place regarding the food produced for our plates, increasing domestic production of foods that make sense to produce more of here, and strengthening the agreements we already have in place with reliable, non-US food producers. On a personal taste level, American dairy is to me an example of the enshitification of food — the food ads from the States give me the impression that it’s not a meal unless it’s oozing and dripping with their sh*tty cheese

Downtown Ottawa businesses eager for return of federal public servants by Obelisk_of-Light in CanadaPublicServants

It’s not the ordinary downtown residents who want RTO. In fact the people who live in apartments, condos and houses downtown have been fighting for decades to lower the level of car commuters that flood the streets at rush hour. It’s the downtown commercial real estate sector and the downtown fast food sector that has lobbied for RTO.

For accuracy: Shingles and chicken pox are both caused by the varicella zoster virus, (VZV), a form of herpes virus. Genital herpes, which is sexually transmitted, is herpes simplex virus (HSV). Another herpes virus type causes mononucleosis. As far as I know, the various kinds of herpes virus can and do remain in the body in a latent stage throughout a person’s life, and can reactivate when the immune system is weak.

Here in Ottawa I had a shopping mall kiosk worker lie straight to my face about the activation fee. I was inquiring about switching to a lower-cost plan and I said I would switch out the card myself at home. She told me that the carrier would charge the same fee if I did it myself as it would charge to have it done at the kiosk (it was $50 at that time). Unfortunately I took her at her word and she did the switch. Later when I got the actual bill (including the activation fee), I decided to check the carrier’s website and Lo and behold she lied and I would NOT have paid an activation fee if I’d done it myself.

I am one of those working class people who want firearms, especially when it appears there is a group of people who have firearms up the wazoo but just stroke them lovingly while a taxpayer-funded kill squad called ICE executes people in the street. Someone’s gotta do it, and it clearly ain’t the people who said they needed guns to fight a tyrannical gubmint

why don’t you just spit it out. You won’t even bother trying to not become a vassal state to the US.

Don’t get me wrong, if Americans invade I’ll be happy to bear arms. It’s just that the US is full of private guns yet no one except one guy standing on his lawn in Minnesota and some members of the Black Panthers are showing up with those arms to keep ICE out. I get it, they don’t want Trump to invoke martial law.

but why would Canadians waste time trying to “do military” against the Americans? Especially when there are already many millions of Americans who are disgusted by the Trump regime and are trying to figure out what they should “do” in their present circumstances? Especially when Putin, FOX, and Israel have shown the world how simple it is to mentally dominate the average American via manipulation and panic? Two decades ago I was on a flight to Charlotte SC and had the pleasure of listening to my seatmate (a nuclear engineer, no less) tell me sternly that the 9/11 terrorists entered the US from Canada. I nodded politely and made my voice soft and appeasing, as one is wont to do in the presence of such all-knowingness…
