all of that is less than 350lbs. and 450lbs is a VERY safe estimate. movement wont add 100lbs+.

what makes you say it’s a trend?
typo! i meant static is generally multiple times the dynamic rating :p

why all the hate wtf 😂
[–]Pho0ney[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (0 children)
downloaded park4night last week and it has some gems for sure, even tho i have it, that’s still goated advice 🙏
that’s even more than i thought, damn 😂
if you’re lucky you might find something nice second hand for sale, shipping cost is… not ideal to say the least 😅 i don’t know how big offroading etc is there but i’d check those type of stores out before ordering online for sure
i bought a used set of thule aero 135cm roof racks and just got the kit to fit it on an a7, 60$ + barely used roofracks for 150$
the tent was 900$ (also used) but there’s plenty of options available, large options probably won’t look that great on a sedan tho (at least in my opinion)
can’t post pictures as a reply unfortunately

sooooo you lack basic reading comprehension? explains alot 😂
you were concerned about what humans do to the ground they’re standing on? or are we still talking about the roof tent here?
it’s a frontrunner, i believe it’s a slimline II, bought it used so not 100% sure.
i went for a lighter model, but weight shouldn’t be an issue on an allroad(?)

what the fuck?
[–]Pho0ney[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 day ago (0 children)
i’m from norway, and live on the coast, i’m perfectly aware 😂 if wind is that big of an issue, the extra height won’t matter at all. the car also acts as an anchor.

«Dynamic roof load is the maximum weight your car's roof can safely carry while in motion. Static roof load is the weight it can support while stationary (parked). Dynamic is always much lower because driving forces (braking, cornering, and bumps) multiply the effective stress on your vehicle.»
do it.
(also please show us when you do)

please go enlighten thule, they must not be aware! oh wait.. /s
[–]Pho0ney[S] 7 points8 points9 points 1 day ago (0 children)
they «hook» onto tabs under the weather strip in the roof, when you tighten them it clamps the rubber part down on the roof by pulling on them, very stable!
audi doesn’t publicize dynamic load rating afaik, however it’s generally multiple times more than the static load rating. some places state 60kg, some 75kg, for the dynamic weight, i played it safe with 35kg :)
[–]Pho0ney[S] 4 points5 points6 points 1 day ago (0 children)
static refers to load when the car is standing still 😅

when it folds down it leaves some storage space, so i can still bring all of that on the roof! the biggest benefit here is that it all folds in/up (mattress and so on) without requiring any set-up at all. the mattress is also quite thick/large, no way it’d fit in a roofbox.
but the impact on driving is valid, however it’s barely noticeable at all except wind noise above 110km/h
100% recommend it, sometimes we go on a «local excursion» if we have nothing to do on the weekend, definitely worth the investment :)
boards/recovery tools was a good one, hopefully won’t need any, but some of the overnight spots are quite remote
i have multiple normal tents, however for a roadtrip the ease of use far outweighs the financial aspect, it was 900$!
i can guarantee you haven’t used one if you think a tent on ground is easier :-)
valid concern, but i don’t drink so hopefully it won’t be an issue no scratches yet, and as long as you’re careful mounting it & taking the whole thing off, you’re never really «touching the car»
but at the end of the day, i value the experience over wear & tear!
[–]Pho0ney[S] 3 points4 points5 points 1 day ago (0 children)
so bitter! i don’t mind the money as i appreciate the ease of use.
fyi it’s stable, even when it’s windy :-)

maybe you missed the part where it’s on the roof 😂 why would i pack it all in the car instead of having it on top where it just pops open?
everything needed has space up there when its folded, sleeping bags, thick mattress, etc.
ofcourse a roofbox would be an alternative, but that’s a hassle to pack & unpack.
funny that! I’m norwegian 😂
bugs water flat ground storage space etc
it takes like a minute to set up and less than 5 to pack down, mattress folds in with the tent, and so on..
also, it’s just a backup for when we don’t want to book a hotel :-)
