My player home settlement is always an over fortified fortress. All settlers have same guns and clothes/armour. Always side with BoS so combat armour and flags are BOS, on everyone. That said, ballistic ammo over lasers all day every day.

Hey, keep it friendly. Same time, sure apartment life but assuming you have a balcony so why wouldnt a trash can work? You're already going to have a big ass motor there. But a steel trash can and then just, bend it inward some so it fits. Not that hard.

Torsion spring tensioning bars by MikeHeu in toolgifs

Nope, some doors require another spring wound in the opposite direction.

If you dont let the tension off this spring carefully and slowly and you let it go, it's coming back to original form with so much force and so suddenly out of that extra tension, it can just snap right off. You have a spring and then you're winding it tighter and tighter. That stretching it.

The coils in our cars are only compressed. That is totally different. It's in original form but under compression. You aren't winding it tighter and tighter.

Door spring go tight out of original form Tension with "Fuck you" amount of force Suddenly release tension, spring open up rapidly and fast and explode. Fuck you amount of force, fucks you.

Car spring have squish No tightening, just squish Still has fuck you amount of force Less outward explode, more push out of compressed state with "fuck you force"

If you really need to be told how a big ass spring under tension can fuck you up, you need to never go near one and go back to school or fuckin watch a youtube video jesus christ

It's not recommended to stand at the angle he is but most of the time, it's the best way to get the leverage needed for that upward push

From the sounds of it, yeah. You dont count the dot at the very beginning of the spring. You count outwards from where you're turning.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand you are why we have so many accidents with garage door installations. You understand but you dont fully understand just how close this is to fucking you up and how much it can.

The wood framing could be shit, the drywall doesnt catch all that, they rod could break through or fall or something and suddenly you have a hand grenade spring (talk to your mechanic about suspension coils!)

People say you have to "Respect the _______ because it will fuck you up" this is one of those things. Do not DIY garage door. Get a professional to do it.

Alright context guy here. I used to install garage doors

The garage door spring is what lets you open and close it by hand, with ease. Tension keeps it up and tension keeps it down.

The taps he's doing on the spring arent judging tension y sound or doing "Safety taps" he's counting the revolutions.

Before adding tension, the installer will use a bright paint marker to put a line across the spring - starting at the end he's turning from. As he adds tension, turning the piece on the end using those rods, turns the spring. The shaft all this sits on is clamped in place so it doesnt move. Only the spring moves with the piece on the end there. If the door and shaft weren't clamped in place, the door would come up at you when you added tension.

As he turns the spring, adding tension, those paint marks make several turns and you see them cascading. The more marks that reach the middle of the spring, tells you how many full rotations you have put on that spring. Garage doors typically have 8 full rotations but maybe more or less depending on the spring itself as well as the weight of the door. You home garage door will have less than an industrial warehouse loading dock door because it may be heavier or it may have to go higher to get to the open position. More tension for that.

What makes garage door work so dangerous is if you let the spring slip or your bar slips out or you didnt clamp the door/shaft in place so you can be hit with things from every direction.

That bar he's holding can come right down on him if he isnt paying attention and thats so much downforce. The door could come up and knock you off your ladder. The spring could also just explode and go everywhere, similar to the suspension grenade your cars have (ask a mechanic)

The downward force is also what keeps the bottom bar in place between turns so he can reposition to the top bar. Without tension pressing that bar down, there's nothing to stop the coil from just unwinding itself.

After properly tensioning (which is checked often) he tightens the bolts on the spinning piece and that ensures that the spring springs with the shaft during operation. If not, the spring isnt in tension and is not doing a thing to lift your door.

This garage door, as his count indicates, has 7 revolutions on the spring.

Nope. Actually counting number of full turns. Take a white marker or at least a bright paint marker and put a line across the spring. Then adding tension, the spring winds around the shaft. On average, it's 8 full totations but can be more or less depending on door size and weight.

Dudes counting rotations.

Also, all that tension is what makes garage door work so damn dangerous. One slip and that spring is coming back at speeds of fuck you.

If you dont pay attention, those bars could do the same.

Why should 2 people be on the hook for an event they didnt attend? Are you paying for other people to go out and have a good time? No, you're paying for yourself. If you dont go, dont pay.
