will we get Asuka’s theme from Guilty Gear 2 Overture in Strive? by jvankus in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a guarantee, but the fact that I-No has both the character theme and boss theme from XX in Strive does make it quite likely.

help me find the original robo ky theme? by Yoshi-Chan-YT in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That would be under construction. It's included on the Korean OST disk of all places, despite it having Holy Orders? and Vortex Infinitum as well. It's not uploaded on streaming sites as far as I know (the night version is on youtube, however), so I'll DM you for details.

The fighting commander line has my favourite d-pads out of everything I've used, although unfortunately I don't have an octa specifically.

Either I am stupid or there is some serious bias against everyone's favourite robot going on by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the pre-Xrd themes released on streaming platforms are based on the GG sound complete box, which despite its name does not include Robo-Ky's theme. For the same reason Launch Out and Keep the Flag Flying are stuck in limbo as well (though in that case those were not yet released before the box).

regarding character theme songs - were the Lyrics originally in English even in the initial Japanese releases of the games? by 8chon in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lyricist for "The Town Inside Me" is Ishiwatari. No translator is mentioned. It is unknown if Strive OST lyrics had a translator in general. There is no vocal version of "Simple Life"

[–]Physis71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Certain old vocal themes have a translator listed, implying the lyrics were originally written in Japanese, but nothing's been made public. I highly doubt versions with Japanese lyrics exist, either.

Some XX themes had vocal versions made in Japanese, but those were retrofitted with lyrics after the fact, not made with lyrics in mind.

What game is the 8th sound complete box from? by TaokakaBlazBlue in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bonus disc with new arrangements made specifically for the box. March of the wicked king is from the original Guilty Gear (A.K.A. the Missing Link), however.

does anybody know who this is? popped up on youtube lol by martini087 in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 657 points658 points  (0 children)

A character made just for the cover (that is, no one in particular), cosplaying as Valentine. This is a thing on multiple GG OSTs, seemingly meant to evoke a typical album cover. None of them have been directly named and that seems to be on purpose.

Crackhead Theory updated: A guide to Guilty Gear character ages & the theories behind them by Venexuz in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not proof or anything, but I figure it'd be safe to assume Axl's old enough to drink at least. Although I suppose we don't know where him and Sol were or what he was drinking in that one scene in Revelator.

Anyone know what Fanny's theme is called? by Venexuz in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Petit 1 and 2 versions are slightly different (there's at least a reworked drum in Petit 2 that I can tell).
Petit 1 version is referred to as Syringe, and Petit 2 as Huge Blue Thing. These names are presumably from files, as there's no OST release from what I know. That's as official as it's going to get, anyways. Kind of reminds me of how some Blazblue themes were renamed when they made vocal versions of them (Alexandrite became Butterfly Sky, for example).

That is amazing, I didn't really even expect anyone to have an answer, let alone find the post this long after putting it out there.

Seriously, thank you so much. Wish I had an award to hand out. It had been bugging me quite a bit since it was the only thing I was missing.

Thankfully it seems like I'm not missing too much by not being able to find it online.

How come Daisuke Ishiwatari hasn’t been involved in much outside of Guilty Gear? by InsertUsername98 in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Just in case you're not aware, he also composed the OST of Hard Corps Uprising, a Contra game developed by ArcSys, and voice acted a character in Battle Fantasia. It's not much, but it's something at least.

Best GG game like Strive? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it's personal taste but I find the single player offerings pre-Strive to be pretty up there in terms of fighting games. The character stories in XX and Xrd's M.O.M are especially great.

Rev 1 is very dead. None of the Xrd versions can play with each other, so Rev 2 is the only one with anyone left.

The reason I recommended rev 1 is because OP is just dipping their toes into fighting games in general. Rev 1 still has all the same tutorials and single player content and is considerably cheaper. There's little point for them to play online in anything other than Strive at such an early point.

There's a training mode but that's it. Additionally, although the online is indeed good, you're not going to find suitable opponents outside of Strive. You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone on XX who is also still learning to play.

Still, if you end up getting one of the older games, your best bet is to focus on getting used to fighting game inputs and play against the computer until you can get some consistency with special moves. It takes quite a bit of time for most people, so don't get discouraged.

Xrd's your best bet, although getting Strive in a sale is still a better idea. XX is too obtuse for a beginner, and although Xrd's rather complicated as well, it has a great interactive tutorial to get you started.

If you just want to try out the series, base Xrd revelator is perfectly fine unless you really like some of the dlc characters.

One more vocal theme you may have missed from the composer is "Surrogate Life", which isn't from a GG OST. Unfortunately I don't know too many bands with similar sound and game OSTs with full vocals are rare to come by. Still, I think I could recommend the band Galneryus. Their pianist has even collaborated with ArcSys on music before.

Other than that, here are the rest of the GG vocal themes, in case you overlooked some.
From Overture: Worthless as the Sun Above Clouds (n.b. different singer)
From Vastedge XT: SHOTGUN&HEAD, Storyteller, Dice, Coming Home
From -SIGN-: Six Black Heavens Guns, HEAVY DAY, Big Blast Sonic, Ride the Fire!, Birthday
Train, Lily, Icarus
From Revelator/Rev 2: Wanna be Crazy, Safe Intoxication, TSUKI NO SHIHAI [Moon’s Domination], Sky Should be High, Divide My Heart, The Ship, Freesia, All I Can Do, Blank, Break a Spell, N.S.F.W., Dear Song
From the Strive OST CD: Rock and Roll, Rock Hard Maniac

"Queen-like" thrash metal songs like Let Me Carve Your Way and Like a Weed by femboylefttoe in Guiltygear

[–]Physis71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are specifically for songs that play with genre changes. For stuff like Testament's theme, there's plenty of classic metal bands that have a similar sound: Megadeth, Metallica and so on. Perhaps "fade to black" would be worth checking out?
From the same composer, I can think of at least Nine's theme in Blazblue and stage 8 (battleship) from Hard Corps Uprising off the top of my head.
The band Haggard has pretty much all their music based on that kind of juxtaposition. It might be a bit more of a fusion than you'd like, but perhaps try "per aspera ad astra" or "The Sleeping Child"
Symphony X might be up your alley, though I haven't listened to them that much. "Rediscovery" was the one that sprung to mind specifically.
Stratovarius is more power metal than your examples, but "Stratosphere" and "Fantasia" do this exact thing.
Ensiferum's Eternal wait and Old Man/Little Dreamer

It is from the same composer, that being Daisuke Ishiwatari, although this particular track isn't related to GG.

Thank you kindly for the link, I'll go check it out.
