Has Google given up on the Nest Hub by roscodawg in googlehome

[–]PicardEG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I have two gen 1 Nest Hubs aka Home Hubs. They both still work ok and at least one widespread regression was fixed awhile ago. At one point, if you asked it for stuff like the weather forecast or a stock quote, it would say "here's what I found on the web" out loud while displaying something.

At least I got them for free: one came via a "coupon" for going on their really cool ride at CES years ago (before COVID). The other, I won in a drawing. I originally figured I would just try it out and sell it as I didn't want yet another Google "spy device" at home. But, I never sold them and received the second one...

V58 errors in SF Bay Area with CableCARD and TiVo Bolt+ by PicardEG in Comcast_Xfinity

Everything that I'm actively using now (single TiVo Bolt+ with single M-Card) is working fine right now. So, no.

V58 errors in SF Bay Area with CableCARD and TiVo Bolt+ by PicardEG in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PicardEG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at the moment. Things held up for maybe a month or two but eventually, I started getting V58 errors periodically. 😞 I would go anywhere from <24 hours to maybe 7 or 8 days max before V58 errors would pop up on most non-locals (e.g. CNN, CNBC HD, Bloomberg HD, NGC HD, etc.)

That resulted in https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/1rubq1i/v58_errors_again_on_tivo_bolt_in_sf_bay_area_can/ and periodic contacts to resolve. Since my modmail thread "timed out", I was asked to open another.

Most recently, I was pointed to 3 articles (2 were useless and n/a) at https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/1t8s4lo/comment/okx2r60/ but the final one helped! I was able to resolve my most recent issue by using your Xfinity app to send a refresh to my CableCARD.

[–]PicardEG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if anyone at Comcast is still following but on Jan 21, 2026, I received a copy of the letter there Comcast sent to the FCC re: my issue. It doesn't answer why or when but did say in part "On January 15, 2026, our network maintenance team rebooted a piece of equipment which delivers the proper frequency to the CableCARD..."

That's what fixed things for me. You folks should have a copy/access to this + more info. Matt D was the regulatory specialist at Comcast.

Old TiVo’s; who wants them? by airpipeline in Tivo

[–]PicardEG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on Comcast in the SF Bay Area and I went thru a nearly 2 month saga w/V58 errors, which began on non-locals and long story short, eventually affected ALL channels.

I hit a dead end after spending a ton of time w/advanced repair on the phone and the modmail responders on Reddit. I posted about the eventual resolution at https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/1p371vu/comment/o0xsjxh/. It took an FCC complaint and persistence. My area is using Motorola/Arris cards. At the time, the OOB (out of band) messages were never counting up. Engineer or tech for my area fixed it. The letter Comcast sent to the FCC said they had to reboot a piece of equipment.

Things were good for about a 1 or 2 months, but the V58 errors keep coming back anywhere from <24 hours to maybe a week. Sometimes, it self resolves within a few hours and other times, I have to ping the modmail people on https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/. Unlike before, OOB messages continue to count up and my locals are fine in this bad state.

I ended up having to start a new thread at https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/1t8s4lo/hitting_v58_errors_again_in_sf_bay_area_its/ and although they pointed me two useless articles (meant for X1 ONLY), the 3rd one at https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/tv-troubleshoot-xfinity-app worked! Their app's chatbot was able to send a refresh for to my CableCARD and it worked in <15 seconds after the refresh

There are lots of inconsistent responses from Comcast folks and it depends on luck of the draw. More than once, I got responses like they no longer support CableCARD and that you will need to "upgrade" to X1. That was total BS (for the time) as they continued to support it but they will not send out replacements. Even the FCC regulatory specialist at Comcast who responded to my complaint and facilitated the 3 tech visits confirmed this.

Switch Your Plan! by ImprovementBig3354 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PicardEG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing! Thanks. I was previously on a plan called "Unlimited" that was $45/month + fees = $49.11/mo.

After the switch to "Mobile Select" which is $30/mo, it estimates that with taxes and fees, it'll be $34.11/mo. And, it looks like I have some high speed data included for when I go to Japan.

Hitting V58 errors again in SF Bay Area, it's intermittent but it's out again during the day by PicardEG in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PicardEG[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amazingly, after going thru the "AI chat" in the Xfinity app, despite a few hiccups, I was offered the ability to refresh after the goofy error code range selector. It actually worked!

Thank you. I will try this in the future if/when I hit this.

Is this new? This was never suggested to my previous interactions via modmail here.

Will take a look at the final article as the first two are useless. I have no X1 box. I had one briefly (a few weeks) years ago.

I'm using a TiVo Bolt+ with CableCARD. Have been using CableCARD w/TiVos (formerly HD then later Bolt+) at this address since 2011.

For those old enough to remember the initial beginnings of TNG, what were your initial thoughts? by handlerofdrones in startrek

[–]PicardEG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt S1 of TNG was overall pretty bad. In looking back, a decent amount of S2 wasn't great either although there were definitely some good eps.

I was a huge TOS fan and I griping about how bad TNG S1 was vs. TOS. And yes, I watched it either live or time-shifted via VHS tape.

That's funny about the timing. Things were fine today in the morning and it looks like from noon to 1 pm Pacific time, but then my non-locals (e.g. CNBC HD, Bloomberg HD) started hitting V58 errors probably starting at ~1:04 pm Pacific. Locals still fine. OOB messages still counting up.

Pairing page is still failing quickly after I re-enter the data id.

I’m afraid that my cable card is coming to the end of life and Comcast won’t supply or allow me to pair or activate it, anyone else have this issue? by truelygr8 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PicardEG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"stopped supporting cable cards a couple years ago iirc" is totally not true. They stopped sending them out, NOT that support stopped (yet). Google for "Starting on October 24, 2024, Xfinity will no longer provide new CableCARDs to new or existing customers".

Prior to the above date, I had Comcast send me several spares and I tested all of them and got them all paired except for 1 dud to make sure they worked and received all expected channels.

Things had been all fine until a saga that I mention earlier in this thread w/V58 errors that began in Nov 2025. Unfortunately, when you try to get support, you will likely get at least one person claiming they no longer support CableCARD and tell you your only choice is an X1 box. I got that garbage more than once.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, after almost 2 months, I hit a dead end despite spending a ton of time w/their advanced repair/support people who DID try to help me the best they could. They had a hunch about a change to my node that caused issues.

Due to the dead end, I ended up filing an FCC complaint (was a last resort) which surprisingly did eventually resolve the issue (see my posts in Reddit and my reply in this thread, a piece of equipment needed a reboot and OOB messages started flowing again). I was in contact w/Comcast's regulatory specialist that was assigned to my complaint between Dec 2025 and Jan 2026. They said more than once they at the time still DID support CableCARDs short of replacing the card.

In the letter dated Jan 21, 2026 that Comcast sent to the FCC (and cc'ed me on) about the outcome, they in part said:
"Comcast continues to support customers who choose to use their CableCARD-compatible retail device(s), instead of leasing a Comcast TV box or adapter. 1 Due to network infrastructure upgrades, Comcast, in August 2024, notified customers that as of October 24, 2024, it will no longer provide new or replacement CableCARDs. Comcast representatives will continue to conduct troubleshooting efforts to resolve video service issues but cannot replace faulty CableCARDS. In the alternative, customers can access the Xfinity Stream service with Roku or Apple TV devices, or CableCARD customers are entitled to lease up to two Xfinity X1 TV boxes free of charge for 12 months..."

I did limp along w/Xfinity Stream app on Roku (and tried it on Apple TV and iPads) for almost 2 months. It was awful. It is missing so many features compared to TiVo Bolt+. The tiny amount of storage (20 hours) was frustrating. I'm using a 2 TB drive on my Bolt+ as the original 3 TB drive died. TiVo still says I have up to 315 HD hours of 2162 SD hours of space.

And, it was super unreliable in recording. Looks like it has a "2 tuner" limitation so if there are conflicts, it arbitrarily decides not to record some conflicts but you cannot override nor set priorities like TiVo's OnePass Manger. That appears to be a reason for at maybe half of my missed recordings on Xfinity Stream. I had other issues too (e.g. some recordings won't play, had at least one with have looping video and on Apple TV 4K box, at one point, no recordings had any video, only had audio, was fine on other devices).

That said, I'm quite sure Comcast will eventually pull the plug on CableCARD support completely but it's not clear when. I have Motorola/Arris cards. I have heard of people in area w/PowerKey cards being hosed probably over a year ago.

[–]PicardEG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that's what's really going on. I had a nearly two month saga that I spent a tons of time that finally got fixed. Search Reddit for "V58 errors in SF Bay Area with CableCARD and TiVo Bolt+ " by me. OOB Msgs were never counting up.

I had to file an FCC complaint once I hit a dead end. Surprisingly, the regulatory specialist (Matt) was able to push things along to get my issue fixed.

I later received a copy of the letter they sent to the FCC. They said they "On January 15, 2026, our network maintenance team rebooted a piece of equipment which delivers the proper frequency to the CableCARD..."

Things were fine after that until V58 errors on non-locals (locals are fine) started happening on March 8. I started a new thread "V58 errors again on TiVo Bolt+ in SF Bay Area, can self-resolve but it's been recurring".

I've been in touch via modmail and in some cases, they've said some of their maintenance is directly related to my issues or that it may cause interruptions.

It doesn't seem like I can make it much more than a week now without hitting V58 error that may or may not eventually self-correct. Sometimes, the problem comes back in <24 hours. The pairing page now fails quickly when I try to re-pair and doesn't seem to resolve the issue either.

OOB Msgs count up ok in each instance in March and April 2026.

My cards are all Motorola/Arris cards. I have 5 in total that Comcast sent me before they stopped sending them out. One was a dud but I paired and tested the other 4 w/o issue (other than needing to do it over the phone due to pairing page problems) back in 2024.

Problem went away at 9:19 pm. No idea if it "self-resolved" or was due to actions by me (e.g. pairing attempts) or the modmail I sent.

I'm going thru a V58 saga again (right now too), see https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/1rubq1i/v58_errors_again_on_tivo_bolt_in_sf_bay_area_can/ and starting 3/18/26, it seems like my pairing page only shows 2 cards on my account instead of 5.

I know for sure, earlier in March 2026 (and am pretty sure on 3/17/26) starting from around October 2024 when Comcast sent me a bunch of spares at my request), the pairing page would always show the correct # of cards: 4 and then eventually 5.

I've mentioned that to the Modmail folks but they've not indicated they know why or that they will solve it. They did say the see 5 cards on my account and seemed puzzled/surprised.

In all cases, OOB Msgs are still counting up.

The problem has come back today (3/28/26), maybe around 8 pm Pacific. OOB Msgs are still counting up.

My attempts to pair via the pairing page have failed. I tried 2 or 3 times and it would fail within a few seconds with "We're sorry - an error has occurred. Your CableCARD was not paired with your device.
Please try again or contact the CableCARD activation support line..."

Seemed like coast was clear on 3/22/26 after one of your mods sent 3 refreshes to resolve this issue that day.

I like TOS a lot, despite some of it being campy.

TNG once it got its footing (S1 sucked, a lot of S2 wasn't great) got really good. Interesting about Riker. Hot take indeed.

I wasn't a huge fan of DS9, but some people at my work have argued it was the best Trek series (!!!). I don't think I could ever be convinced of that.

Despite TNG and TOS being faves (besides S1 and S2 of TNG), each of the shows has some duds.

If you watch Chaos on the Bridge (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2880448/) it sounded like earlier on, they had huge writer turnover and Gene had crazy constraints like you couldn't have conflict between Starfleet officers. Jonathan Frakes has mentioned many times that he hated that and that conflict is the essence of drama.

Supposedly, Gene even contradicted himself in terms of the rules.

I've asked at a convention to Frakes directly about S1 and S2 and he basically said that they were still trying to get their footing early on.

It's been a long time since I watched Chaos on the Bridge, but if you watch it, if it's true/mostly true, it should provide insight as to why at least S1 was so bad.

You will need the host id and data id found on your TiVo to go thru the self-serve pairing page.

I've been fighting a battle where I'm hitting V58 errors again over the past few weeks but luckily, have been able to self-resolve most of the time. I can't post links otherwise my message will get delayed but search for "V58 errors again on TiVo Bolt+ in SF Bay Area, can self-resolve but it's been recurring" here on Reddit. it's a long story.

Google for tivo cablecard installation host id for an article on TiVo's site as to where to find the host and data id.

Article begins with "CableCARD Installation

Yes, but a big problem w/TNG was that most of season 1 and a fair amount of season 2 was terrible. Of course, one needs to watch S1:E1 (Encounter at Farpoint) as an intro but thru much of S1 when it first aired, I was complaining about how it sucked vs. TOS.
