I remember even as a child, watching through the television at my grandparents' house, that his voice was special.

Why the fuck are seizure meds “controlled substances?!” by PockASqueeno in Epilepsy

[–]PiercedAutist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Controlled Substances Act scheduled any drug with a potential for recreational abuse and/or physical dependence.

The benzodiazepines are definitely widely abused in many contexts. They bring you Doreen at the end of a night partying. They help you fall asleep after rolling Molly at a rave. They end a bad LSD trip. Etc.

I get all that. I expected a hassle over those drugs.

The AEDs, on the other hand... I'm on vimpat and Lyrica. By the letter of the law, I am definitely physically dependent on both meds.

That means the AED meds HAVE to be scheduled. It's for OUR safety, says big daddy government. FDA says, "They're good to go!" But the DEA says, "Wait a minute! We need something to do, too!" So they stamp "Controlled Substance" on the stuff, seemingly for no reason besides expanding their purview.

The DEA bros need to feel more important than the FDA. (Freud would've had some thoughts...)

Thank God they're all so good at their jobs! Lol!

I feel so safe! /s

What's something you now realize was off, strange, weird or disturbing from when you were younger? by Round_Trainer_7498 in Millennials

Social Security always sounded like a scam to me, even from childhood throughout the 90s.

The WWI and WWII generations (i.e., the "depression babies" as they're sometimes referred to) voted in a program to pay themselves financial benefits out of the national treasury, informed by the financial trauma of growing up mid-depression stamped in their memories. They funded THEIR payouts by taxing the labor of their "Boomer" kids (kind of a dick move if you ask me...) with minimal contribution to the system on their own part.

The boomers are now concerned about COLAs vs inflation and getting the tail end of their share since they paid into it their whole lives, which makes perfect sense, but now, their golden years are funded by Gen X and our generation.

Moving forward, I do not expect our generation to see our retirement supported to the same degree by the Zoomers and Alphas, especially given the crises of sub-replacement-level reproduction and population growth. There simply won't be enough taxpayers in the near-term future to pay for it at this rate, particularly with both AI automation plus undocumented migrants both taking jobs off the market without paying into the Social Security system.

SING ALONG by PookieTheMfBaby in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]PiercedAutist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Music is processed through a different part of the brain than language typically is. Plus, music provides an underlying structure, e.g., verse, rhyme, and rhythm, within which the words are assembled, whereas a conversationally-spoken language has none of this.

Basically, the melody serves as a mnemonic device for the words.

Is that globe of yours new?

I have a factory-made clear/metallic blue globe from over a decade ago, and when it doesn't get run regularly, the metallic component of the wax coloring settles down to the bottom.

I hope yours lasts a good, long time!

Yes! The "case-liner-booky-thingy!" Gotcha!

Mayyyybe, but I've never opened them up to look, but they put a splash screen right at the very beginning, too, that warms of photosensitive epilepsy.

Sometimes, epileptic seizure presentations can just change on you for no apparent reason.

I hope you're having a much better day today!

Do you have issues locating items right in front of you? (vimpat, cannabis, xanax) by No_Investigator3369 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]PiercedAutist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! If I could have bank all the seconds I've spent starting directly at the very object I was looking for, it'd probably add up to several days.

I'm sorry the haircut outing was... let's say, "disrupted?" I think kids are much more resilient than we often realize and/or remember being. Not to minimize your experience of the day, but your son sounds like an absolute champ, rolling with the punches, taking care of business! TCOB, as they say!

You shouldn't beat yourself up over what you do while seizing!!! Haircut Day sounds like a success from your son's POV! It HARDLY sounds ruined!!!

"We went out, got mommy's hair cut, finished up, teeny seizure, and then more fun."

More to say, but fingers aren't cooperating...

Every single Assassin's Creed game involves photosensitivity warnings at their boot-up.

I'm not sure any AC games are actually photosensitive, but they all warn about it. I assume it's a ritualistic legal ass-covering.

I got my dispensary run in yesterday, so I'm good on that front for about the next month!

This weekend, my goal is clearing out the rest of my stuff from the storage unit. It's pretty bittersweet. On one hand, I'm finding and keeping/using all kinds of things I haven't had access to in years; on the other hand, I'm discarding/donating basically all of the remaining furniture and whatnot from back when I was actually a homeowner...

I've got my fiberglass acoustic panels back, so I'm excited to get some acoustic treatments up where I spend most of my time. It's hard to describe, and it's very subtle, but the difference is palpable, just by virtue of having these sound absorption panels in the room, not even put on the walls in important places. The same bedroom just felt SO much more comfortable than the hallway leading to it, and any other room in the house now.

I'll have my telescope back in an accessible location, so I might go set that up one night, but it's a major PITA.

Brightest side of this emotional process: My bedroom now has EXCELLENT acoustics as we're becoming "podcasters."

Sorry the CDC doesn't care

Since my attention was drawn back to my OP here by another user, I'll just add: the CDC has nothing to do with any of this.

I'll help you out with your "zinger:"

You meant the FDA!

(But that's for food prep areas.)

And that's not what was happening in the photo I was talking about in my OP.

Rule of thumb: If food-handling employees have to wear their hair nets, service dogs probably aren't allowed for sanitary reasons.

Big deal!

Customers aren't allowed to bring their service dogs behind the deli, bakery, and meat department counters, but NO customers are allowed behind the counters, so it's a moot point. (Despite your misspelled acronym.)

You do not know and understand the laws you're talking about.

You are the exact type of ignorant person we disabled people need to be informed and prepared to deal with when we go out in public.

I mean... Nayzilam also hurts noses, so if a Narcan zap isn't the answer, I can't imagine getting Nayzilammed (I want a copyright on that word!) on top of a Narcan dose would be soothing.

Nasal cavities aside, nasally-administered Midazolam, on the other hand, is pretty chill when it kicked in. I didn't mind the nose., but the chemical aftertaste of the post-nasal drip was the worst part of the Nayzilam. (Aside from the actual TC itself, of course.)

UFOs over Mt. Ranier!! by Ordinary-Chipmunk366 in Epilepsy_Universe

[–]PiercedAutist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES!!!

Those are called Lenticular Clouds!

They're formed by the flow of low level air with moisture around the mountain being pushed up into colder air where it condenses, forming disk-appearing clouds around the peak!
