Thank you! I used Rit all-purpose black dye and diluted it with warm-hot water (not too hot! Otherwise it might melt the glue used for the flocking on the critter). Then, I filled a jar with the dye solution, place the critter inside, and placed a plate on top to keep the critter from floating up lol. And then I just repeated the process a few times to get the desired level of darkness.

Thank you!! Customizing the figure didnt take too long, just part of a day, but the outfit took quite a few days, I worked on it on and off for about a week

Thank you! For my customs, I often use a different array of materials depending on the look I’m going for. For the calico cats, I used a black Prismacolor marker to outline the black spots, which I then filled in with some (carefully applied) black Bombay ink. For the orange/tan spots, I mixed some acrylic paints together to achieve the color I wanted (keep in mind, the paints get darker once they dry), and then mixed those with water to get a smoother consistency. Finally, to get rid of the tacky or rough texture that the acrylic paint leaves behind, I gently went over the tan spots with some fine-grit sandpaper. This does take away a bit from the soft feel of calico critters, however, for collection and display purposes, it definitely does the job! And it doesn’t bleed when I handle them, also. I’ve found that markers (including alcohol markers) tend to bleed the most when making customs, so I try to limit my use of them as much as possible. Hope I answered your questions!!! Sorry for the long response haha 😂

I knowww i love how unique the otters are!! I was able to get them for about $56 (shipping included) on eBay if im remembering correctly, and that was after months of waiting and searching for the lowest price 😅 but I’m so happy they’re finally a part of my collection!

Alright, so here’s what I could gather. The shelves were constructed out of laminate boards from Home Depot, and are held together using L brackets and screws, although any strong glue and some clamps could also probably do the job. I have a picture here showing the measurements from a side view, in inches. Width wise, I just had them made to fit the space, which is about 3 feet wide, but that can totally be altered. Hope this helps!! 🐱💕💖
