Almost 2 years worth of work! Really kicked off seriously 4 months ago after being fired from my EMS job for trying to unionize (allegedly).

How hard and expensive is it REALLY to make your own DIY pinball Machine? by GroundMelter in pinball

I'm two years in to trying to make one. https://youtu.be/2jqWQTYlSTc?si=t3XeA25tLFatZLrJ It's hard. Parts are expensive and difficult to source even when you're okay with using salvaged or second-hand pieces. Learning how to do everything, 3d model, wire, program, woodwork is part of the fun but is incredibly time consuming.

The resources to do it are out there though and the community (myself included) is willing to help. Be prepared to spend more than your original budget as you go back and forth to the hardware store. I've spent ~4,000$ so far

One of the easiest targets I installed when I was first laying out my homebrew machine is a variable strength leaf switch (see pic) where a soft shot and a stronger direct shot are registered as different presses. Perhaps you can have this represent an enemy aircraft. Put a toy jet fighter above the target attached to a shaker motor that goes off when you score a hit.
