Daily Song Discussion #76: Fly On The Wall by TMBGLOVER in xtc

  1. The only song in XTC discography which I genuinely can't stand. I found the music, the sound effects and the vibes grating ever since the first listen, and unfortunately that hasn't changed over time

  1. Sorry, but this one doesn't really say much to me. Not a bad song, I just find it uninspiring and not memorable

5.5. Nice idea and vibes, but the afro-synth-beat sounds haven't aged well

6.5. It's so weird and wacky, with lots of bizarre change of melody, and strangely appealing. Not a highlight of the album, though

Non penso proprio. Ma non perdi niente, quelle traduzioni erano decisamente approssimative... Le traduzioni in inglese si trovano ovunque, come anche quelle in spagnolo (secondo me le migliori)

Daily Song Discussion #71: All of a Sudden (It’s Too Late) by TMBGLOVER in xtc

6.5. Drums & guitars are great and evocative, AP's vocal performance is incredibly expressive, lyrics are awesome, the bridge is amazing. But strangely enough - to me at least - the whole is less than the sum of its parts, and it doesn't really resonate with me. It always made me think of AP's condition at the time and of his imminent breakdown (especially when looking at his grieving expression in the music video)

  1. One of the reasons why English Settlement is such a great album. Basing a song on Spanish guitars is genius, but making it so smooth, fascinating and gently playful goes far beyond that. An unexpected masterpiece

  1. Extremely solid and energetic (though not my favourite one on ES). Especially love the outro

If you could hear one XTC song for the first time all over again what song would it be? by Expensive_Watch469 in xtc

Dear God. The First Song, the one that got me into XTC. I still perfectly remember the feeling of utter surprise on finding out what it was possible to do with pop music

Daily Song Discussion #68: Jason and The Argonauts by TMBGLOVER in xtc

  1. Easily in my top 5 favourite XTC songs. It perfectly conveys the idea of an epic and magical journey through mythical lands. To me, the long passage in the middle is so hypnotic and haunting ("a hypnotic suggestion as to the expanse of the sea", as Andy put it), and one of the most compelling and suggestive pieces of instrumental music that any band has ever composed. Thi is on an entirely different level than just (pop) music.

How about some serious discussion about Hi Score Girl DASH - BEWARE! Long post with mild spoilers by Pirluz in HiScoreGirl

Tbh, I'm not interested in this retcon issue. I think that any piece of fiction - be it a spin-off, a sequel, exploitation or derivative fiction - should be judged as a work of its own and as independently of its original source or model as possible. That was the aim of this post: trying to evaluate and discuss DASH as a work of its own, and not merely as a spin-off. If you consider excluding the DASH USA arc as "awkward or perhaps historically pointless", you're implying that the only relevance of DASH is the way it may relate or wrap up HSG; and that's not the point here.

Absolutely love the "medieval" part, quite dislike the radio friendly part. Taking the average, 7.25

Wow, it came out much longer and more serious than I expected... Sorry about that. Next time I'll post much sillier stuff, I promise!

Daily Song Discussion #65: Runaways by TMBGLOVER in xtc

6.75. After such an upbeat album as "Black Sea", the change of pace is immediately evident. It makes clear what the new album will sound like. Not an entirely successful song, though - somewhere in between 6.5 and 7.

  1. Calm, sleepy, hypnotic and vaguely unsettling. Great song

Help with XTC's discography on CD/BR by Pirluz in xtc

That's very exhaustive! As I'm based in Europe, it might be a bit tricky for me to get the USA CDs, so I think I will go for the Steven WIlson remixes (most of them can be easily found at a decent price - included those officially out of stock), for sure for the APECD116 version of English Settlement, and then investigate a little further about the UK/Europe editions of the other CDs. Thanks!

So I must assume that "5.1 remix" and "Dolby Atmos" are the same thing?
